have chk w DD k2 teacher, she has to be there from 9 am. so i think she has to miss the orientation. i will have to bring her around next time when i go to purchase the bks and uniform.
My DD has her kindergarten graduation rehearsal on that day too. I checked with the school, it is best to go for the orientation to get to know other classmates and teachers. The parents can get to know one another too.LiLing:
anyone compared price with popular? the bookshop only open during office hours really very inconvenient!!!
btw, friday's orientation. must i bring my DD? cos she has her concert at 5pm will be very rushing if she were to go. anyone can advise?
I will try to get DD to come for the later part of the orientation if possible. For your case, you probably get to the beginning part of the program.
does the bkshop have sample uniform size to try on? -

I did not pre-ordered. The purchasing process was pretty quick and smooth today, maybe I went during off-peak (3:30pm). The book vendor prepared the books and went through the book checklist with me. The uniform vendor patiently let DD to try a few sizes and payment done swiftly.Hi went to the sch yesterday..
It took me 2 hrs to wait to purchase the books n uniforms though there are only a few parents doing the purchase .Alot of time spent on waiting. Not efficient . The vendor is not prepared. Hopefully on the 8 n 9 nov, they are better organized n prepared . Otherwise, prepare to wait for half a day .
My advice : to do the preorder for the textbooks .
:imcool:
In both instances, there were only one other parent there, so not busy at all. -

- Went to YZPS just after 1430hr. Current students and teachers around to guide us to the School Hall. The students were very polite when showing us the way there.
- The hall was already quite packed with parents though not fully seated. Some videos being screened before but I don’t have an idea what they were because I was late.
- Started with a dance performance of P1 students.
- First speaker was the Principal… then the Vice Principal… and Section Heads… Dental Staff…
- After all the presentations, we were brought to different classrooms (Class 1A to 1F) to fill in forms.
- Finally there was a school tour but I did not attend as I had to rush off to pick up DD after her school. -
In the Principal’s presentation, the school is a strong supporter of work life balances. No staff work on weekends, so the parents-teachers briefings will normally be conducted on the weekdays. Advance notice will be given to facilitate parents to arrange to attend the session. So the staff/teachers work hard from Mon to Fri and then re-energize for the next week. As the Principal said something like this, happy teachers will bring the best to the learning experience of our kids.
Another of the communication conduits used is the Principal’s Letter to Parents. It is only available ONLINE to save the trees, so all parents keep a lookout for the letter, however the school will inform the parents of its availability.
According to the Vice Principal’s presentation, there will not be any year-end examination for 2012. It will be in the form of regular bit-sized tests conducted during the year. And it will be emphasized less on marks/grades on the assessments, instead "areas of improvement" will be given so that the student is clear on how to improve going forward rather than rating his current level at the subject.
It will be more like learning through more hands-on, more games and activities, confidence building through show and tell, etc.
Lastly, I hope the school will put up the briefing presentation materials on the website for those present or absent to view. -
With regards to the Wed’s odd timing, its really a drag for my kid till now who is in P1 this year. He hates Wednesdays most as he cannot clock in enough sleep no matter how hard we tried. He even skipped schools on some Wednesdays when he only managed to fall asleep after 12am, despite going to bed at 9pm. The pressure to fall asleep soon because ‘tomorrow is morning session’ is certainly pressurizing.

My daughter is also in YZ P1 this year. Bedtime every day is 10pm, or slightly later, but she is able to wake up on Wednesdays at 6:20am. My wake up call is firm - sometimes 5 min snooze, but that's the tolerance. Usually arrives at school at 6:45/6:50am with time to spare for playing and reading with friends.
The morning rush has been difficult in the beginning, but when it becomes a fixed routine, kids will get used to it.
On some occasions, she did have difficulty falling asleep. Some possible reasons:
- extended nap time
- watched a thriller/horror movie some time in the day or
- had too much stimulating events in the day (disturbing images run ad nauseum in her memory)
The next morning would be a little more difficult but we would just have to push along the routine. -
It will be challenging for any kid to wake up early during their early childhood days. I think regardless of morning or afternoon session, sleep early and wake up early is a good practice cum habit.
Getting up early on Wed is probably a good transition to single session. -

i have attended the orientation brief. i find the principal's tone very hostile. Is it abnormal for teachers to respond 3 days later where a young child is concerned? If it is their own child, wouldnt that add to the anxiety of parents? -
To reddiechan, you are lucky to have a child who can fall asleep anytime/soon. Some active children just needs longer time to fall asleep despite having good sleep routine. By the way, children at their age needs bt 10 hours of sleep.
To idealist, you may want to know this website is also monitered by the school. They will answer your queries where necessary. Although I hate Wed timing, I didn’t ‘dare’ ask for a change because before we enrol our child, we already knew they have such a system.
Like all schools, this school also has good and mediocre staff. At least the student mix is not a bad lot.
