Maris Stella High
-
Hi there! I am thinking of trying for Maris Stella for my son next year (registering this year). We are Catholics but living more than 2km from the school. I've seen the balloting history for the school and it seems like there will likely be balloting. Just wanted to know how \"fierce\" the balloting will be and what my chances are since it will be snake year (less babies) compared to dragon last year.
Also, any parents with sons in the school that considered diversity of students a concern, since the school focuses on Chinese that I believe there will be few if any non-Chinese students? I would prefer my son to mix with kids of all races
Thanks!! -
Maris Stella is a SAP school, meaning the only mother tongue being offered in the school is Mandarin. What s more, Higher Chinese is compulsory from P1 onwards.
As an outsider, I would guess that there are maybe at most a handful of non-Tamil Indian race students there who are offering Higher Chinese as their mother tongue.
And quite possibly, zero Malay Muslim students willing to study at a Catholic school that doesn’t offer Malay as a Mother Tongue option.
But please correct me if my guess is wrong, current parents. -
I see, thanks Zacs mum!
I would love to hear the experiences of parents with kids currently there, how they’ve managed to cope with Higher Chinese. Are their kids adapting well? We are rather Jiak gan tang type and I don’t speak Chinese to my son at home. I wonder if it will be too much for him if he does Higher Chinese. Like fail! -
Hi,
My boy is currently in P1…we had to go thru balloting to get in (within1km) . The school emphasize alot on Chinese. Every other days there are chinese revision, online portal assignments to do as compared to English homework. Parents has to be able to teach them at home too… We as parents has to revise with them… esp the hanyu pinyin and the strokes. -

Hi, any thought on 2B phase for SC > 2km for this year registration ? should i consider to rent out nearby there to eligilbe as SC <1km , does this make higher chance to get in ?
-
Hi, its difficult to tell even though there are lesser snake babies. There are new housing coming up near Bidadari and around MS and these residents though have not moved in but they are still eligible to apply MS within 1km.
Best bet and to get much higher chances would be to go in within SC >1km. -
Any good student care to recommend?

Any parents who still remembers the ballot situation in 2018 for 2019 P1 cohort? Since there is missing info for 2018 ballot history on KSP, can anyone please advise the Phase 2B and 2C situation with distance information?
Thank you -
