MS is a single session school P1 - Sec 4 all morning. Mon 7.10am - 1.45pm, Tue - Fri 7.10am - 1.15pm.

Can i chk with you - is the 10mins reading period at 7.10am a compulsory thing? aka, if you arrive at 720am, would you be considered 'late'?

vicki, you will not be considered late or punished if you arrive at 7.20am. Do bear in mind that from the General Office or Drop of Point, your son has to take a flight of steps up & then walk to his classroom (that could take another 5 minutes) & by then, many of his classmates would have arrived. Anyway, you’ll find your time around as you adjust your morning timing, maybe wake up 5 or 10 min earlier or eat partial breakfast at home & partial breakfast on the way.


During the 1st 2 days of school, parents are invited to talks organised by the school at the hall. You may ask such questions during then or even during the Orientation in Nov.

There were 2 selections conducted for the badminton training club. The 1st one was done during their PE lesson. Ds told me they were given a racquet and told to bounce the shuttlecock as many times as possible (no instructions on how to do it, was given at this point).

Ds was selected and we went for the 2nd trial. We were told to bring along a racquet. It was on a Sat and at the Sec school hall. The 2nd one was very detailed and took about 1.5hours (including registration, waiting, etc). The instructors did a detailed check on their arms/hands, leg/feet (had to remove socks/shoes). Then they did some physical exercise like standing broad jump, sit and reach, some running, etc. Lastly, was the bouncing of the shuttlecock again. After that, you’ll hear from them 1-2weeks time whether selected to join the club.

Hi toffeev, does your description only applies to badminton selection? We are interested in letting ds join the wushu club -- and i was wondering if they have a selection criteria also?

Can i chk with you -- for your year, do the parents just go for 1st 2 days and then that everything will turn out ok from 3rd day onwards -- or do you actually take the whole week off to accompany ds to school?

Hellos Namie, you stay in Tampiness? I stay in Tiong Bahru -- haha -- i think i am very far from the school also -- will need to think of transport now that balloting is over!!


There was someone who said that he/ she is thinking of sending ds to town BASC -- wonder who this person is?? Maybe my boy may end up in the same school bus since town is quite near Tiong Bahru!

Hi vicki, it was me. When I spoke to the bus operator, she said currently they haven't any kids headed to town so cannot tell how long the bus journey will take. When I asked how much later the last kid gets dropped off, she told me about 1hr to 1hr 10 min. If you add say another half an hour to get to town assuming the kids in/near town are dropped off last, would take I think 1 hr 30 min to 1 hr 40 min?

Hi vicki, the school only allow parents into the school only on the 1st 2 days. They run programmes in the hall while the lessons are ongoing & then during recess. The parents can come down to have the look at their boys. The talks & getting-to-know other parents are good. From the 3rd day onwards, parents are not to go beyond the General Office area. That part was heartpain for me. I had seperation anxieties so much so that that I cried while my son excitedly went on to his new adventure !

Hi Honey, I can understand your heartpain. It was also hard for me to let go. Even during the 1st and 2nd day, we were in the hall majority of the time, except during recess, so can’t really see how was ds faring.


Hi Vicki, yes the selection that I mentioned pertains to badminton only. Wushu and table tennis no selection needed. You’ll receive a letter for the wushu and table tennis, you just have to indicate your interest and submit it together with the payment (these are paying CCAs). For this year’s P1, the wushu lessons are conducted on Wed after school. Table tennis is on Sunday mornings and badminton on Saturday afternoons.

Thanks for the link to see the no. of students applying to MSH. Do we know the breakdown for this year like Phase 2B, MGS gives a breakdown in the website, then number of applications within 1 km, number of Singaporeans and PR etc.


I wan to be 100% sure that I do not need to ballot before I will aplly to MSH.
