Good morning everyone. i have been following the thread recently,but seems to me nothing is mention about teacher. How do you guys rate your form teachers? i feel that form teacher somehow can make or break a child in some ways or sort.we are still new to MMCS, our first year went well. i found the form teacher quite supportive specially to Mrs.Ho. I take my hat off her,she is very motherly!! is it taboo to discuss teacher behavior in this site?

No, I don't think it's a taboo to discuss about teachers here. A few of us have commented on teachers' attitudes and behaviours here...Just to name a few, Ms Sung, Ms Sng, Mrs Rashid, the Malay Language teacher.

I totally agree with you that a teacher can make or break a child. DD1 had very good and supportive teachers over the years and she still visits her P1/P2 teachers, even though they are in different sessions. DD2 is also very lucky that she had teachers who encourage her lots . As a result, I can see she's more confident now. For that, I'm grateful to the teachers and thank my lucky stars.

I've heard of Ms Zaccheus but I don't know her well enough to comment on her. I think if you have any issues with her, maybe you might like to get in touch with her either by email or make an appointment to speak to her via phone to clarify or address the issue. Hopefully, the issue can be resolved. Just my 2cents worth. :lol:

I don't think its a taboo to speak out about teachers...i mean we are all just sharing info and experiences and learning from one another.....its sad that you said that your gal has \"lost \" her spark..i believe in NEVER putting down a child...we can encourage them ,tell them where they've gone wrong etc.....once they lose their confidence it can be hard to find it again...
i think almost everyone here knows that i have no qualms whatsoever to speak to teachers...its for my gal's benefit and its good to have good communicatin between parent and teacher right?
maybe u can speak to your gal's FT? :?

Thanks Tinkerbell points taken. I think my DD had lost her spark this year. She did pretty well last year. She joined MMCS one term late but managed to grab first in class. She is never involved in what I mentioned scolding incident in a nearly everyday class affair but it left her a very bad impression and just lost her eagerness to do well in class. Her exact word \"whatever, my teacher is never good in giving praise but verry good in putting us down. She said, we are not worthy to be in this class.\" My DD feels that there is no point in doing well coz u never get the recognition anyway.

Congrats to your DD on her excellent academic achievement. Not easy to be top in class, especially since she joined the sch later. :celebrate:
Do continue to encourage & support your DD. It would be should a shame to see a bright gal lose her spark and motivation simply because her teacher puts the class down & doesn't acknowlege their efforts.
Hope you don't mind me asking, does Ms Zaccheus scolds the whole class or just your DD?

Personally, for the sake of your your DD's self esteem, I feel that you should bring this issue up with the teacher. She needs to be aware that her actions can have a detrimental effect on the kids. I understand that teaching the top 2 classes can be stressful for the teachers but to take a blow at the kids' self-esteem is truly uncalled for. Hope things will improve for your DD soon. Hang in there, ya. :lol:

Oh gosh, that muz b v demoralising. Have u thot of meeting up wif the teacher and find out more? Not for any accusations but juz to see how well the teacher speaks. I believe thru talking face to face, u will noe how the teacher conducts herself.

Juz to share. My DD's FT, Mrs Sarah Tan is soft spoken but firm. She wrote down comments which are constructive but not demeaning. Eg. 1) Well done but you need to improve on your handwriting. 2) Mia, you need to write your name neatly. ( :oops: told u my DD's handwriting is pretty bad, IM not lying)

With some practice at hm, DD's handwriting has improved quite a fair bit these days (although still not an \"A\" grader ). Her recent spelling bk has comments like:\" Great improvement in handwriting\". DD was so proud of herself that she felt motivated to write neatly now. So I guess, positive & constructive comments coupled wif recognition for efforts is imp for a young child.

Sorry for the late response. I am down with severe sore eyes and cornea abrasion for the past 2 weeks. Finally is going to get recover soon.

My DD2 is current 3yrs 2mths old. Thanks for sharing with me what you have experienced with ur DD2. I will monitor my DD2 on those points closely. I hope she will be able to overcome it.

Some kids especially the lefties do some reversal letter/mirror image.
My gal sometimes write \"ouy\" instead of \"you\" and will even miss reading words..reading from right to left (we worked on this for SO LONG) and and misread words like \"far\"as \"for\".They have poor phonetic awareness and rhyming is really difficult for them....i still remembered when DD2 was 3,she rhymed fat,bat, cat ,sat,yellow fellow and DD1 said\" yellow flower\"(!) :!: they complain words are \"moving\" on the board/book and gets headache when reading too long....
If your DD2 gets to K2 and still reads right to left cannot differentiate 6 and 9 poor rhyming and pnonics..maybe should get her tested just in case.It really helps when i knew what was \"wrong\" with my gal.its \"easier\"to help her once we knew what kind of help she needed :love:

I agree with funkymonkey, once you know what help your DD needs, it is easier to help her. I have seen it work in my friends and their children who are diagnosed as dyslexic overcome the challenges that they face. Alot of love, confidence, courage, patience, one on one hard work and focus needed but it can be done. There is hope. Most important now, continue to read with and to your DD, instill the love for learning in her and she will cope better.

Oh yes, those grading are for the penmanship. The teacher are rather strict on their handwriting. There's once my DD wrote \"niece\" but the vertical stroke for \"n\" is a little little bit high, and she was marked wrong. So from that incidence, I have been paying attention to her handwriting, to make sure she writes every letter properly.

yes, DD got 10 out of 10 but not sure why there's a B & B+ for the 3rd & 4th spelling respectively. Now it make sense cos DD's penmanship is really not so good.

They still have the handwriting practice bk but it was not graded (or at least I din c any grades on it).

Over the weekend, DD had to complete 6 pages of the writing practice book. Very sore hands by the time she finished tracing and writing. Guess the teacher is getting ready to grade the P2 gal's penmanship.[/quote]

Hi Tinkerbell and Cantbearit2,

Thank God it is not my DD who's getting the firing everyday of her life. It affects her though. She is so scared that she might get scolding also.She told me how one of the girl gets in trouble all the time. She doesn't like the way she kept telling them that they are not worthy to be in the best class. Somehow it affects her confidence to do something because it may not be good enough for her teacher. I can feel her withrawal, I tried to build her confidence but everytime there was an incident in the classroom involving her other classmates she don't feel doing anything.infact , I think she wants to be invincible so that the teacher won't even know her existence. On the other hand,my DD2 is in 2 Humility she adores her FT. She is really enjoying school and always want to do extra work. Because she knows she will get recognition for it.simple well done! Or great job it means a lot to a child.thanks a lot, it is so nice to have a place like this where you can be free to express your thoughts.I hope my gals survive this year with out so much emotional dilemma.
