Pari, mummies with dds already in MCS have been really helpful to the rest of us whose dds are waiting to go into P1 next yearThanks All for such a warm welcome
I have read thru few posts seems you guys are really well versed with all the do’s and don’ts of MCS….
I am really worried if my DD will able to cope up with all the sudden pressure of studies……
Any idea when to enroll DD for BASC at school campus…heard there is normally wait list..what are the chances?
Sorry for asking if you all have already discussed ….li’l blur :nailbite:
I am also quite worried about the pressure, and I think the most important to teach them to take responsibility for their own studies. I'm not sure about the BASC for MCS, but I think it's best to at least call up to enquire now if you are looking into it?

Hi michyms,
Thanks Tinkerbelle, isn't standard chinese also offered in P5 and 6 as well? hmm, 3 full months of HYPY - that's quite different from our days I guess when HYPY was kind of a by the way thing. My girl's CC is already teaching HYPY so hopefully that will mean she'll have an easier time absorbing when she gets to P1.tinkerbelle:
Hi michyms,
There are no programmes like STELLAR for teaching Chinese. All primary schs use the same chinese text book, depending on whether the sch teaches standard chinese or higher MT. MCS only has standard chinese for P1-P4.
Nowadays, with the change in MT syllabus, more emphasis is placed on listening, reading and oral skills in lower primary. In P1, only HYPY will be taught in the first 3 months. Basic characters will only be introduced from term 2 onwards.
Sorry......typo error.......Standard Chinese is offered for P1-P6 at MCS but only Higher MT is offered at P5-P6 level. Thanks for pointing it out.
Yes, definitely different from our days. Nowadays, with the intro to HYPY, I find that DD2 is very reliant on it. When she reads Chinese book, she tends to read the HYPY, not the Chinese characters. :slapshead: In the end, sound like foreigner reading chinese.... keke
Great that your DD has already started on HYPY. It'll be a breeze for her in P1 then. :boogie: -

I can understand your concerns about DD starting P1. No need to worry too much.....MCS eases the gals in slowly. For P1, the sch really start from scratch.....like counting 1-10. The gals will not be expected to do lots of homework at P1. Most importantly, with the new MOE initiatives for lower primary, learning is actually FUN as the activities really do engage the students.
Sorry...can't help you with BASC. cantbearit2 is the expert for that. You there....cantbearit2??? -
All the best to all P6s with their PSLE Oral on Thurs & Fri. Jia You!!! :rahrah: :rahrah: :rahrah:

All pri schs offer HMTL for P5-P6 but not all students will take HMTL (unless if it's a SAP sch).
Generally speaking, most of the gals usually can cope with HMTL even without doing HMTL in P1-P4. The reason being, most of these gals were selected based on their P4 MT results. Having said that though, gals who were not selected can still take up HMTL if the parents choose to. However, if these gals can't cope in P5, they'll not be able to continue with HMTL in P6. There are only 2 classes offering HMTL in MCS.
DD1 was selected for HMTL but she chose not to take the offer up as DD is not interested in going to a SAP sch and we felt that she should focus on her other 4 subjects. Afterall, PSLE T-score is based on the 4 core subjects. The score for HMTL is not computed into the T-score and can only be used if the child is going to a SAP sch.

:thankyou: michyms. Usually, DD1 is not nervous with oral exams but this time, the stake is higher so I guess she'll be nervous speaking in front of 2 teachers whom she's not familiar with.Tinkerbelle:
