Hi Tink
Just ordered thee books online. I kinda ordered the assessment papers that they have as well. I thought it wouldn't hurt.
Got them to deliver to my place as I'd be too busy over the next couple of weeks to make arrangements to pick up the books. My girl is quite excited about it and so am I. Kinda looking forward to it. hee hee hee
Just ordered my book online too and got them to deliver. Now is to hunt for good school bag and black shoes for her. :imcool:
Try Popular for school bags. It's pretty decent.
For shoes, I went to Bata. They have those Bubblegummers ones and their own brand. Fairly decently priced at around $20 a pair. -

Hi wimdils,hi Tinkerbelle,
yes it is exciting...
Wondering if you have any tips to share on how to ensure that fewer careless mistakes are made? not reading instructions carefully, not to leave out any questions.. gave dd a practice paper and it was disheartening to see her carelessness
Please don't feel disheartened. It's not uncommon for younger kids to make careless mistakes. Most do become more careful over the years as they mature. Here what I practise with my DDs.
1) I always get DDs to read the questions twice before 'jumping in' to answer the questions, especially with lengthy maths problem sums.
2) After reading the question, I'll get DD to highlight or underline only the key words in the question to focus/work on. Questions can be lengthy and kids can lose focus as they do not know what the question is really asking for with all that info overload.
3) Double check when transferring answer. For MCQ, some kids know the answer and write the wrong answer instead. For problem sums, after working out the correct answers on the side, some kids make careless mistakes while transferring their answer back to the final statement.
4) Teach kids how to double check. To children, when you tell them to double check, they 'll just flip through all the pages to ensure all questions are done. Show them how to double-check.....the kids need to go through all the questions once again and check through their working out and check through their final transferred answer. Yes, this sounds like a tedious process but it's a good habit to inculcate. Eventually, it'll become second nature to them.
Just my 2cents worth. Hope it helps. :celebrate: -

Hi tuteee,Tinkerbelle:
Hi phoenix,
Yes, you can order MCS exercise books from the Pacific Bookstores website but MCS socks are only available from the uniform shop ($3/pair).
As for textbook plastic covers, they come pre-packed in a set (about $6)in the right sizes for all your textbooks...very convenient. You just need to match the sizes & wrap. Exercise book covers come in a set of 10 for $2.
Thanks for the update, i have to start saving money for the kids future.
keke....Yes, kids are costly these days. Need to save lots of :moneyflies: :moneyflies: :moneyflies: -

Hi tinkerbelle and other experienced mummies, can I get some advice about the number of uniforms and PE attired to buy? Do you think 2 sets each would be enough? How many name tags do we need as well? Thanks so much in advance.
Hi michyms,
It depends on how frequent you do your laundry...haha.
I usually get 2 sets of PE attire and 2 sets of pinafore. If you buy 2 sets of each uniform, you'll need 4 name tags. Name tags are sold in sets of four only.
It's ok if you want to order an extra set of name tags as the colour of the name tags will not change for each cohort and the kids will use the same colour name tags for the next 6 yrs. If I'm not wrong, for P1 (2012), the colour of the name tags is light blue.
Once you order the name tags, you can only pick them up 1-2 weeks later, in view of Dec peak season and the seamstress will sew them onto your uniform.

Btw, the teachers told me that the # we got on Sat may not mean our dds' final sitting position. My dd's registration # is 29 too.mommyto3js:
Hi,My DD is in Responsibility class
What is your DD's class registration number? My DD is number 29, siting right at the back.
Yes, a child's registration number does not determine the child's sitting arrangement. When sch re-opens, the classroom will be re-arranged in groups, rather than in rows, so the kids will sit in groups of 5.
However, a child's registration number will follow the child through the year. Do ensure your child remember this number as she'll be required to write this number after her name on all worksheets in the future. -

Hi cantbearit2,So any reward for yur DD?? hee...
We bought our DD her long requested Sleeping Beauty dress to dorn on her b'day celebration juz last weekend. We seriously think it's a waste of $$$ :moneyflies: but since she has done her part in working hard for e SA :imanangel: , we thot she deserves to have e dress.
Wow....a Sleeping Beauty dress!! What a lucky gal. Please do wish your DD a happy belated birthday. :rahrah: -
Tinkerbelle, thanks for the info on the uniforms. We have loads of laundry, so do them quite often. Will get 2 sets of each

P1 parents - in case you are popping by the Popular Book Fest, you may consider buying the following items from your book list there:
1) Pentel Oil Pastels (49 colours) for Art lessons is going at almost 40% discount. I only paid $5.70 instead of $9.20.
2) The My PALS are Here! Maths Extra Practice! is going for $6.50 compared to $7.60 at the school bookshop.

Hi Tinkerbelle,
Re: the registration number, are you referring to the last 3 digits only (Eg ABC) or do that children have to write the entire 1/11/12/ABC?
Thanks. -
