you are welcome. on a side note, my girl definitely faster learner than his Gor Gor. Boys are so slow lol

Hmm...mine opposite lor. Elder son is fast learner while my gal definitely is slower.
So i know right from the start, my gal doesn't suit fast paced env school, so i did not send her to my alma mater.
MCS really suits her, knowing she's happy in school, making friends, not stressed out by homework is most important. Not every kid can manage stress.[/quote]oh I see. Then I got the question Faithkit want to ask already, More homework means fast paced? hmm...
Means if the school deemed itself as holistic means slower pace?

My son, prev in SAP school, also not much homework.
Sometimes, it also depends on their teacher.
Been Holistic, school focus on character building.

        Here's MCS vision:
Ladies: Ladies who are refined, cultured and healthy in body, mind and soul
Compassion: Empathise with, show kindness and care towards self, others and the environment
Eloquence: Speak with aptness, confidence, conviction and fluency
        Intellect: Life-long learner
God as our Shepherd: Rooted in sound values. Look to God for Guidance and direction

You will know if you are able to compare school communications and what is discussed during Parent Teacher Engagement Session.

If I may offer some perspective as a current P3 parent (another school)…

MOE has done away with exams for P1 and P2. The assessment criteria that you will see in the report books are similar to what you are seeing in the kindergarten reports. Holistic development assessment like do they get along with their peers, how is their ability to regulate their emotions etc etc. It seems to me that MOE wants parents to see primary school education as a 6-year marathon. Pace yourself and your kid. It is not a sprint race where before P1, parents need to pump the kids up with extra coaching to win the top academic student in P1 award, and then in P2, in every single year. There is no more streaming, so there’s no competition to beat your way to the top. Even the new PSLE does not reward the top academic scorer: u may be excellent in studies but it still boils down to a ballot with an equivalent scorer. God will pick the school that suits your child more. That’s how I see it.

As for faster paced schools/slower paced schools…I have been looking at those various famous schools’ exam papers (available online for free by the way, just search and you can see them). I can tell that some faster-paced schools (eg Nanyang) set very difficult questions. And the content that they test is more than other schools. That shows that the teachers cover MORE topics over the same period of time, compared to other schools. They are the same P1 syllabus, but the exam tests eg. CL textbook Chapters 6-10 vs another school will test only Chapters 6-8 (and leave 9-10 untested but teacher will teach it AFTER the exam is over).

I hope that paints a clearer picture of what “faster-paced school” means. My boy, definitely cannot survive at such breakneck speed and will fail if he has to do such difficult papers. But he is being paced steadily and consistently and will score reasonably well for his PSLE. That’s what the teachers assure me.

Also if the child is indeed high achiever, likely she will be identified to join GEP programme.
So in lower primary, just let them relax and have fun.

                  Dear parents,

I’m considering MCS for my dd, I wish to know what are the school hours and the recess time? For P1 students, are their parents allow to hang around in school for first few days and during recess time?

Also if any parents happen to be staying at amk ave 5 and taking school bus, what is the timing for pick up and how much is it?

                  Thanks in advance!

School hours is from 7.30am to 1.30pm. Recess i think is from 9am. Only first day of school parent are allowed during recess. On first day, the recess session is 1 hr, parents get to spot their daughters in canteen behind a barricade. P5 buddy are assigned to guide them.

P1 orientation is very well organised in MCS. The buddy will bring them around for school tour.

                  Thank you for the reply!

I called the school bus service up and was advised that they pick up the students around my area at 6am and they will reach school roughly at 6.45am. May I know what will the students be doing during 6.45-7.30 (45mins)? Do they get to roam around or they are required to just wait at the assembly area?

                        - I get updates after each term on all the subjects, including PE, music & art too. Parents are informed what have been taught and highlight what to take note during revision.

                        - Most cute communication would be Chinese Spelling list. English translation was provided in case parent can’t read hypy or the chinese characters.
                        - So overall i find my gal’s teachers put in a lot of effort in terms of communication
