Wow!!! Went away for the weekend and all of you have been so active with your postings. Lots to read.

So sorry to hear that the orientation was so unorganised. I think MCS was more organised last year. From what you guys mentioned, it sounded chaotic this year. :scratchhead:

The principal was not present during orientation as she has some official meeting to attend to, thus the vice Principal welcomed all of you. As for a Q & A session, don't worry....once sch re-opens, maybe in week 3 or 4, there will be a P1 Briefing Session where the P will address you and all parents will get to meet the respective form teachers . They will then give you in-depth info about the curriculum, and house-keeping info. Maybe MCS doesn't want to bombard parents with too much info before sch starts.

The teachers in the classrooms during orientation may not necessary be your DD's form teacher. Those teachers were only there to render assistance to all the the admin procedures. Some form teachers are in their respective classes, some are not. Not to worry, all the P1 form teachers are very nice and very good with kids.

There were actually 17 prefects on ushering duty on orientation day. I guess it's not sufficient to cover parents of 240 students. However, it's difficult to get all the prefects back as it's officially their sch holidays so some may be away on holidays already. These same prefects were the ones that took care of the P1 gals and took them around the sch for a tour. Maybe more signages would have been great.

If your DD is interested in Rhythmic gym, she can join the specialised CCA in P1 week 3 without selection trials. That way, chances of getting in is higher. From P2 onwards, it'll be harder to join as only the talented ones will be selected.

However, for Rhythmic Gym, their CCA is twice a week. Tentative schedule for next year is Monday (9.30-11.30AM) and Wednesday (10-12Noon). Cost is $90/term, payable by Edusave account or cheque/cash.

Is it true that the toilets in MCS are mostly dirty? My girl went to the toilet near the classrooms n she said that the toilet was dirty n there was no toilet paper. Sounds disgusting…

Is united uniforms the only place to get MCS uniforms?? My girl got size 30 becos size 28 is just nice for her so think better to get a size bigger if not by mid of the year, it might be slightly too short for her. However, the shorts and jacket is out of stock, anywhere else to get them? Actually, is it necessary to get the jacket?

Btw, can I check what do you let your girls wear underneath the uniforms?? Just panties or we should let them wear shorts?

Yes, only United Uniforms sells MCS uniform. You will have to wait till late Dec for the shorts and the jacket. Actually, it's not necessary to buy the jacket as it's not cold. DD2 bought 1 and only wore it less than 5 times in the year when it was raining..

DD2 only wear panties now. Beginning of the year, she wore shorts but found it uncomfortable so she dropped the shorts. The teachers will always remind the gals to sit properly and not expose their panties..DD does wear singlet though. The pinafore's armholes are a bit big. :lol:

No, I just have the tentative CCA schedule 2011 with me..

Rhythmic gym is also good for DSA in P6 (ha, ha, still very far down the road). This year, 2 of our MCS gals got places in RGS during the DSA selection. :lol:

Got so many questions leh... but dunno who can help...

The Pupil's Helpmate is still in print. Every year, it will only be ready end of Dec. For P1 parents, not to worry, someone will walk to individual P1 classrooms when sch re-opens to ask who needs a copy of the Helpmate. You just need to give your DD the money to pay for it. Your DD won't end to queue at the bookshop.

Yep, the English worksheets are exclusively for MCS. They don't used textbook anymore under the STELLAR programme. :lol:

Pg 8??? Paisay, thot it was juz to hand in to the teachers. Meaning no CL lesson on first day??? Hee.....

The books listed are to hand in to the teacher, except for the textbooks. Usually, the gals don't have lessons for the first few days. Lots of house-keeping and introduction games for the gals to get to know each other better. The teachers will ask for the other books on other days so the gals don't have to bring everything in 1 day.

Also do any of you know if the MCS school bookshop sells PE shorts? I've got all my gals stuff already except for the shorts( that seems to be forever out of stock) and her excersice books only!

Parents with gals in 1RESPECT out there....is it my imagination or was the chinese teacher the only \"smiley\" one...the other two look so cold and didn't even return my smile....my gal super timid leh...hope the teacher won't put her off going to school.....

The MCS bookshop does not sell PE shorts. Only United Uniforms sells them. You'll need to wait till stock arrives.

These teachers in your DD's class on orientation may not be her teachers as they were only helping out with admin procedures. Not to worry, my DD2 was also very shy and timid beginning of the year and I was so worried. Now, she's very chatty and keeps chatting on the phone with her friends. Her P1 teacher was most encouraging. Most of the gals hug their teacher after sch daily. :lol:

Mine is sitting right at the back!Hope they'll switch places for gals who are shorter...

The seating arrangement is only temporary. The gals will be sitting in groups when sch reopens. Their groups will be changed every term so the gals will get to meet everyone in the class.
