          Hi everyone,

I din get to attend the school orientation as the time crashes with my DD graduation concert. I went to the school few days earlier to settle the payments as well as the car label. The staff gave me a folder with 2 booklets (Joy of Reading 2, Healthy Living for Children) and the ribbon. However, I do not have the booklet that has the information on what books to bring on the first day of school.

Can someone provide me with details? Any other things that I should know to get my girl prepared for the first day of school? Thanks!

          Cheers,
          Jessie πŸ˜„

            Hi Jessie,

Sch will commence on 4 Jan 2011 Tue at 12.15pm. The gals will proceed to the sch hall upon arrival and there'll be prefects and staff to assist them at the pickup point. For security reasons, parents are requested to leave sch after you dropped your gal.

Recess for the 1st 3 days of term 1 will be from 2.30 - 3.30pm and they'll have buddy system (P5 gals) on duty to assist our gals during recess time.

Books to be handed in on 1st day.

            English
Primary English (Revised Ed) Book 1 (Casco)
            1 Jotter book
2 wide single line exercise book.

            Maths
My Pals Are Here! Textbook 1A
My Pals Are Here! Workbook 1A Part 1

Pls write your gal's name on the books in ink.

            Others

Ensure your gal put on the ribbon for the 1st 2 wks to ID which class she is.

Your gal must have a pencil case containing at least 2 sharpened 2B pencils, an eraser, a sharpener, a ruler and a clear folder.

The Pupil's Helpmate (diary) to be brought to sch every day.

Sch bags and water bottles should be light and inexpensive.

All belongings ie. stationery, jackets, books, purse, shoes, sch bag, water bottle etc must be labelled.

Make necessary transport arrabgement for your gal early and instruct her clearly of the appropriate mode for her daily dismissal.

If your gal has to come to sch in the morning for CCA/remedial lessons/sch sctivities, pls prepare her lunch for her to bring along. Otherwise give her pocket money to purchase food from the canteen. To inculcate indepandance and responsibility, family supervision during lunch is not allowed in sch or at the canteen.

              Hi Kerbaya,

So nice of you to type out all those info for me! πŸ™‚ Thanks alot!

Now then I realize I have not purchase the helpmate. I ordered from the web and received them on 1st dec. So guess will need to go down to school to purchase that.

Erm the clear folder that needs to be brought on first day of school is it one of the item from the booklist? I only see clear holder green for music. Is it that one or need to go buy another clear folder?

Any idea what kind of food are there in the canteen? My girl very choosy on food. Not sure there is any that she likes.

                  Hello everyone,

regarding the student care (GSSC), this is what has been informed by the centre supervisor:

                  1) wear home clothes to GSSC in the morn with MCS sch shoes
                  2) pinafore bring to GSSC, they will provide hanger to hang the pinafore (so no worries abt creases πŸ˜‰ )
                  3) child change to slippers (slippers will be kept at GSCC; no need to bring back)
                  4) dirty laundry (aft bath to prepare for sch) can:
                  a) let the child bring it along to sch 😒 (so smelly & so heavy)
                  b) leave it at GSCC temporarily & parents can bring back home:
                  i) aft MSC dismissal in the evening (if parents fetching child)
ii) the nex morn when sending them to GSCC
(if choose option 4b, advisable to get a plastic bag with zip for the dirty laundry and label properly)
                  5) tips fr supervisor is to put an add'l panty in the child's sch bag (in case of \"accidents\" which, to her understanding happens quite often wif the P1  )
                  6) the GSCC Chinese teacher will inform parents on the assessment bks to get aft sch re-opens (in the beginning more relaxed lah)
                  7) English & Maths assessment bk is up to us to purchase for our child to do. We juz need to indicate in our daily comm book on how many pages we want our child to finish and the teachers at GSCC will see to that
😎 As for spelling, they will also do revision with them every now & then (but that does not mean we parents can sit on our laurels & \"kiao kah\" )
                  9) Supervisor advice: child shld at least do part of her homework at home otherwise may not have time to finish at GSCC (time is pretty short fr morn to sch time; some children may also need a longer time to finish their work). It will be good if spelling is also done at home. GSCC teachers will refresh their memory by going thru wif them again.

Do let me know if there are other issues I have missed out. But these are the answers to my questions. πŸ˜‰

                    Hi Jessie,

Not to worry about Helpmate. They are published late so might not be available even if you go back to sck bookshop for it. When sch re-opens, someone will go around P1 classes to ask who wants to buy one so your DD won't need to queue at the book shop for it.

The clear button file the sch is refering to is not the green music folder. You have to buy your own. It's for your DD to put all her daily worksheets and any newsletter from the sch. The sch is not strict on the type of file you use as the teachers don't collect or check it. Stritly for your DD's personal use. Doesn't even have to be clear. Can also have cute designs like Hello Kitty etc. Some gals buy files with L-shaped opening while others prefer button files.

My DDs say there is a variety of food in the canteen. To name some, there's sushi, chicken rice, BBQ pork rice, diff types of noodles, Halal food, bread, snacks like potato chips. Sure there will be something your DD likes.

Luckily we have Tinkerbelle here to clear our doubts on the helpmate and clear folder.

I just hope my gal won't eat chicken rice everyday cos that's her favourite... she's abit plump liao...don't want her to be a fatty bom bom like me haha.

hehe.. I am quite curious given a choice, what my girl will buy to eat... cos normally I am the one to suggest.

Btw, where to get those fitted plastic covers for the textbooks and exercise books?? Or I have to buy one roll and start the wrapping myself??
