Callie,
Mrs Seah is so straight forward... I think she imply then your girl got no slot?yah, just gate crash first and ask.....
Btw, another issue, are you in CM ? yr girl with Janice is it?
mummyv, your child in P5 this yr? stressful hor! I agree, the boys catch up eventually. In fact, my girls class got many smart boys...
bridesept, dont worry, my girl always tell me, the boys that are naughty are the ones who get v good grades....I dont think being a boy puts you in a disadvantage... just a teeny bit less mature than girls only...
I don't know lah... if there are many parents out there with my mentality then yes, I might be depriving some other kids a place in this so-called niche Sports CCA... but I am just too kiasu to let this chance go, this I admit.
Hey yes, my girl is doing Math at CM and is taught by Janice... How you know?? Are you with them too?
Yes, the top student in my girl's class is also a boy... -
Callie, you mentioned that the top pupils in VB opted out so your girl gets a place. This doesnt gel leh. The letter said that we need to decide by 19 Oct and the letter was only issued on 8 Oct. I wonder how come there are drop outs ?
No harm to attend the briefing as you get to hear directly. It could also help you to decide which CCA to go for. So far, 2 boys who got selected for sports class unanimously said yes, according to my son. One of them is my next block neighbour who have to tick either basketball or VB. Another had to decide between BB, VB or Table Tennis. And you know what the boy said ? Tick all. Ha ha... I think boys prefer play to work. So all will want to go.
Tks all for the encouragement ! I shall attend the briefing and

oh yes, one more thing, what time does all the training end? I am working and stay in AMK. So the transport will be a challenge for me. My poor son is in student care in serangoon. So I am not sure how things will pan out.

Yes i also find it a bit weird lor... i got the call from Mrs Seah on monday evening... that's 8th Oct. She said she realized my girl is already in CO so she was not issuing the letter to my girl... but I feel that she should just issue the letter and we can decide from there right? Now i have to gate-crash so thick-skinned... alamak....Callie, you mentioned that the top pupils in VB opted out so your girl gets a place. This doesnt gel leh. After reading all the posts, I began to understand more on the special PE programme. Thanx very much.
My son was given the letter only today. I was surprised to receive the letter which indicated that the briefing was tomorrow and the reply to attend was yesterday. Maybe my son was being offered because some have already indicated to opt out?
In any case, I will call up Mrs Seah to clarify tomorrow. -

Really appreciate this forum and all the parents for taking time and effort to share all the valuable info... without this forum I will be a lost sheep...with the school giving so little info. After reading all the posts, I began to understand more on the special PE programme. Thanx very much.

Yes according to Mrs Seah, some students opted out hence my girl is offered a place... may I check does your son have any CCA now? -
kin, yup my DD is in P5. Yes this year was stressful. Before this year I needed no extra resources to manage her studies. This year I discovered KSP becos we couldn't cope - it was a SHOCK to both of us. KSP maths is a life saver for us. Coming from a sports class environment and being streamed into the academic class was an eye-opener. Maybe it is becos she is playful, so her friends are not v studious type and she got a shock in the academic class the students are way ahead of teacher, work so much faster and so diligent. In her own words, \"So many prefects. Now how? No more naughty boys to distract teacher and liven up the class.\"
Callie by now you prob realise PCPS not very organised... they prob won't even know you are gate-crashing.
hey bridesep training schedules differ each year. It would be safe to assume that there will one Sat (either am/pm) and 2 weekdays. 1 of the weekdays session 1-hr will be scheduled before HC. The other day could last till 3.30 - 4pm depending on how they schedule it. Even student care told me to save $$$ your DD come here for what? Once a week? With another day for extra optional CCA (initiated by the last Principal - swimming, rollerblading, money mgmt, school outing - now not sure still ongoing), DD spent 4 out of 5 afternoons staying back. Plus if need academic support......more afternoons lost. To my surprise there are some parents who let their DC stay in school till around 5 -5.30pm everyday in study room before they get picked up. I stay in AMK too. By public transport - 2 buses - need 1 hour from school to home.
Also kin is right, this year in P5, the smart ones are all boys... those who still score 100% for maths and high 90s for the rest.. -
Hi Callie,
My son does not have a CCA now. I am abit puzzled, you mentioned that you did not have an official letter on the offer but how did you come to know that your daughter was selected in VB? The teacher called you?
Does anyone know if there will also be a class for wushu? -
Tks, mummyv. What time does your girl go to bed? Still can manage 8 to 9 hrs of sleep? It is amazing, the way your girl has to cope. Besides the child, the parent also must be very disciplined and no more life!
I will be asking the school why there is no more sports class in P5 and p6 and leaving it to the kids to manage their time. Cant but help feeling \"abandoned\".
My son just got his ICAS results for maths and he got Higher Distinction. Hope the results can be sustanined. Thats why i am still very apprehensive about sports class. Up to now, I am not so inclined to join Sports Class.
Callie - i still find it extremely weird that the school can manage to get decisions about pupils \"dropping out\" of sports class when they have just offered. It just does not seem logical.
Is Weiqi also a niche CCA and does it require a lot of time committment? The teacher in charged who happens to be my son's teacher asked the class if they want to join as CCA. If so, she will give them the form and no need to wait.
As usual, my son said yes. He will say yes to everything. ha ha..... -
hi bridesep
target sleep time is 10pm, wake up 6.15am. ya I used to feel quite sorry for myself/DD with no free time until I came to this forum. What we do is normal, not extraordinary at all. So poor kids and poor us. And I think my DD is one of the few who only has 1 tuition. We hv no time for more and there is no support to ferry her around for more. Most kids we know of seem to have loads. Some are even doing Grade 8 music level at P5. The forward planning of these kid's parents are amazing... since I don't plan much and only react to circumstances.
Yes, pls update what school says. My own deduction is that, school pushes more academically inclined kids harder - faster pace, harder work. So if they keep the sports kids to sports class where the standard differs vastly, it will be too hard for the teachers to manage. Teacher always encourages class to join competitions to bring honour to the school....
Good for your boy High D is fantastic. He will be one of those \"admired\" ones still scoring high 90s/full marks at P5/6 when everyone else is vomitting blood :rotflmao: I think weiqi will be fun since he is maths inclined - he should also enjoy chess.
If I am not mistaken, most CCAs are scheduled 1 hour before HC. So if your kid has no extra CCA, doesn't need academic support, doesn't join optional CCAs, stay back is only once a week. If stay back once a week is your aim, check CCA scheduling.
