Its been a hectic 2 weeks, we are still trying to adjust to morning session. I stay at Lorong Chuan area and the school bus picked my son up at 6.15am. According to my son, when he reached the school at 6.40 pm, the lights in old sports hall aren’t even switched on yet. Requested the bus uncle to delay the pick up time, but he said cannot. So tomorrow i am going to send my son to school and see how it goes. My son has been complaining like many others of being tired. We stay within 2 km fom PCPS but yet he has to wake up at 5.45 am, so ridiculous right?

I also received notification that VB (non school team) CCA will start on 16 Jan from 4 to 6 pm every Wed. We should not have signed up VB as other CCA does not start so late. I chose VB because my son did not join VB sports class. So thought joining VB CCA was a good alternative.

Any parents got any idea where the poor boy can go between 1 to 4 pm? How to ensure that he doesnt run around or cross the road to the HDB shops opp the school? I am beginning to have more and more headache…

            Hi bridesep,

My girl says that there is a study room in school where the children can do their work and wait for their parents to come fetch them when they are late. I am not sure if there is a teacher watching over them in the room. At least there is a proper place for them to do work while waiting for the 4pm CCA?
Apart from that, there is also an air con class room located next to the staff room on the second floor. I walked passed it during the P1 Orientation for my no. 2 and it stated : Study room for Pri 5 & 6. This is another room apart from the normal study room. Then again, I do see a many kids hanging around in the canteen late into the afternoon.

What level is your son? My girl has higher chinese on Wed 2-4pm. (Pri 5). And those with HCL (P5-6)will have classs until 4pm…

Hi Kin, my son is in P3 this yr. Am surprise that the volleyball CCA starts so late. My worry is that without supervision, my son will end up in the neighbourhood shops, fear that he will mix with outsiders. To them this new found freedom will be so exciting.

Incidentally, i find myself solving all kinds of logistics challenges - fm pcps to student care, student care to home and fm pcps to student care on days when there is CCA. For Friday HCL, I hv contacted Andy but he has yet to reply. Andy consolidates transport request for days when there is CCA.

                Hi Upper Pri. Parents,

May i know based on ur past experiences, ur children's results get better each year as they promote or otherwise?

mine is in P3 so can't really tell... she's consistent lah so far but i think results will vary slightly from time to time....

                What's your concern?

                  Hi bridesep,

Ok I really can understand your current situation… I stay in bishan and am sending and picking my girl to and from school since the school has started…It is tiring and quite disruptive as I have to work and see clients and do entertainments too… I have checked and if we were to take the school bus, it will come at 6.30am so we have to get up at 6am. Now that I am sending, my girl wakes up at 6.30am… and she can reach home faster too instead of going round the estate before dropping off at my place. So it’s a trade-off…

Yes I also noticed the late starting time for recreational VB… I think it’s either your son goes back to rest or stay in school to revise and do his homework…

                    hi bridesep,

kin is right, there is a study room in school. Library is also open. There will be kids drawn to the neighbourhood shops namely 7-11 and the bubble tea shop. What I find helpful is restrict the amount of pocket money they carry, enough to eat, not enuf to spend so temptation to go to the shops is down. Also if you expose your child enuf to whatever the shops are selling, they are not interested? With my child, I let her know my expectations, no going out of school. If this is violated, certain privileges will be withdrawn. On days she needs to stay back, I assign some homework/reading to keep her occupied on top of school homework and I will check to roughly gauge how she spends her time. Another way is to make friends w other like-minded parents those who may stay near the school - who share the same CCA as your child - best if your child is friends with them so they can \"play\" and \"bond\" within school or playover/study dates.

It will be \"normal\" for results to drop assuming same effort is put in. The higher the level, more work/time needs to be put in. First drop p3, second drop p5. Severity of drop depends on how \"prepared\" the child and parents are and how motivated they are to close the gap.. ie you can provide your child with the best resources/tutors etc but if child is not motivated to excel then it will not happen. Not all children fit the academic track.
