Cbreeze, parent support group can be involved in ad hoc projects, eg, fund raising events, student field trip etc. Also can help with reading, mentoring the weaker students. That's what I read on the parent volunteer form.

Tks Jce for your reply. :celebrate: BTW, how do you find the new principal? Know that he was formerly from Maris Stella (VP), he does look a little stern and I certainly hope for this year's (i.e. next year P1) orientation programme will be held earlier than 30 Dec....Read that Catholic high had theirs in October last year!! I also hope there will be more input from parents of Pei Chun children so as to rally and garner support for this school. :rahrah:

There was buddy system last year in 2009. My daughter is looking forward to being a buddy to the primary 1 children but was disappointed that it was so quiet this year.

I thot if have 2 orientation would be gd. 1 in Nov and another in dec (nearer to sch reopening) cos if too early then the child might forget abt the environment.

I do agree with the move in allowing parents in for only half a day, reason being, the sooner you let go, the sooner the child will be able to adapt. Of course on the other hand, the child may get scared and resist going to school...

As for buddy system, I think P2s are a bit too young to be a buddy. The P3s or P4s were out to help last week, guiding them to the school hall from the various entrances. Otherwise during recess, teachers are around so I guess they're there to help those who need a helping hand.
I also thot earlier we let go the faster they can adapt. Anyway nowadays most kids attends pre sch or enrichment classes so not many children cries in p1.

Luckily my gal has made a fren in class (she calls her the best fren already) so during recess she goes ard with her fren).

Yes, it would be nice that the buddy system is kept as the younger ones always look up to the 'kor kor' and 'jie jie' of their school. Even if it is just for 3 days, it should still work wonders. But if the teachers are alert and at hand to help out the new students, that would be highly appreciated and help ease the transition period for us parents too.

Do you know if they have any \"Open house\" for Pei Chun? I've called previously but the clerk said 'No' quite curtly.

Unlikely to have 2 orientation programmes...that would be too time consuming for the Principal & teachers. I think if the programme is being held in Nov or not later than mid Dec should be ideal. Yes I agree, October is a wee bit early, but 30 Dec is definitely too late & 'last minute'. I suppose the new Principal had to put some reorganisation of the school plans in place first, hence explained the delay. Hopefully......there'll be an improvement for this year...keep all of you posted later..

Actually i do heard of 1 sch which had 2 orientation. First 1 in mid Nov (1st week of yr end holidays) then 2nd 1 end dec but only the p1 pupils will be in school with their classmates and form teachers.

Agree, 30 dec a bit too late. Maybe just after xmas like 27 or 28 would be good. The trs can have their yr end break then come back to wk at the last few days.

What type of parent volunteer duties are there? Is the standard of Chinese very high at Pei Chun? Any recommendations for enrichment classes that you find beneficial to your kids?

Not sure abt the parent volunteering duties. But i think the standard is bit higher as compared to other non-SAP schs. They use the higher chinese textbook. I tried putting my gal at Tien Hsia but she didnt enjoy. Mayb not familiar with the classmates and the curriculum is more challenging there. Didnt want her to have CL phobia hence i withsrew after 2 terms. Heard that Berries also not bad.
