Hi G Tan
Yes a lot of students complaint that the math paper was very tough. Some are not able to finish the paper 2 questions. I have know of a student did not do the last 4 questions of the paper 2. Indeed the prelim math paper set by the school was too easy and I think the teachers did not prepare the students well for the Psle (not trying to push the blame on the school) base on the math exam questions set from P4 to P6 for the pass few year. What is your opinion? -
2632parent:
I strongly agree with you.. The school did not give them a good exposure of different types of questions.... sigh.... My frens children in woodgrove said maths paper is easy!!! omg!!!Hi G Tan

Hi P6 Evergreen Mummies, I am not surprised to hear that our Evergreen kids face difficulty in the PSLE Math papers. My child is not in P6 but for the past years (SA1 and SA2), the exam papers were so easy. I assumed that the school is trying to ease the way for the lower primary children to adapt to primary school exams but now that I heard that your children in upper primary and esp P6 were not exposed to questions that required our kids to solve in PSLE, I am really concerned.
Why shouldn't we blame the school for this shortfall? Is it not the principal and the teachers' jobs to ensure our kids are adequately prepared for PSLE? We as parents must do our part of course but our kids spend more than 6 hours in school every weekday and to me, that is precious time that should be used to train our kids for their first major exam -- the PSLE.
Some of the teachers in school have really been slacking off, from what I can see. There is no more passion in teaching and they are just doing their bare minimum.
After reading abt the PSLE Math, I asked my friends who have children in Qihua, Siling,Tao Nan and De La Salle. ALL their kids said that both English and Math papers were easy, especially the Math. Their children themselves were taken by surprise. If our kids cannot even solve questions in a relatively easy PSLE paper, what happens when it is a tough year? I dare not think anymore...... -
Morning G Tan and Agong Mum
Well instead of depend on the school to help our kid, I think we have to work harder to coach our child ( that’s what most of my friend think so) really a headache. Are both of you homestay mum or working mummy? My DS is in primary 4 and will be taking his Psle 2 years later. -
Hi 2632parent,
I am sure most, if not all, parents coach their children more or less.We all want our children to do well. But to me, that is not the issue. What happens if parents are neither educated enough to coach their children nor rich enough to send their kids for tuition?
All parents should be able to trust that their kids’ schools are doing a good job of nurturing their children, academically or otherwise.
Actually, I have doubts that some of the teachers may not be suitably qualified to teach all the difficult Maths that our children face today. Some may not even be well verse in Heuristics. Why do I say that? A teacher told his/her class that he/she does not know how to solve a particular question using a particular method required in the book. He/ She must check with a colleague first. I was just shocked. This question is a standard question from the Maths activity book. (Don’t wish to name the teacher involved here)
Think all teachers should be sent for regular in-depth training and upgrading or else they cannot keep up with the fast-changing and very challenging questions of today. 2 or 3-day courses are not enough, apparently. -
sad to say when school is not doing enough, we have to outsource for tuition to reinforce what they learn in school.
my boy EL teacher have been busy with the P6 and have not been coming to class. Students were asked to do their homework or read story books during those periods by relief teacher.
from previous experience, come the 4 days PSLE marking days, teachers will start to give many past years paper to do but insufficient time to go through with them
