I have to add. After chinese tuition, my younger girls obtained A* in Chinese plus distinction in hcl. Money most well-spent lol cos yield results and it was a combined tuition for both cl/hcl.......
Well, I’m expecting similar ROI :rotflmao:

Only 2 months so far but I’m seeing an improvement already. While the actual jump in marks wasn’t exceptionally, there’s already a huge improvement in her writing, in terms of prose and choice of words used. She’s currently doing HCL so she won’t understand the difference between CL / HCL - hopefully can keep it that way. No need A*, AL2 will do 😂

Do you think this is so called “hooked on tuition”? Meaning, if parents see the benefits of tuition, that it does help in the child’s school results, parents will let kids continue will that tuition centre / tutor.

It has been some years since the announcement of moving to AL banding. Do you think the switch to AL banding has tapered the need for tuition classes?

I recall in my DD1’s non-SAP primary school, at P5, students must score at least 85% and above for ALL 4 subjects before one is allowed to do HCL.

Your dd1 sch is so strict. I heard presently hpps is the same thing too. In my girls pri sch, all take hcl from P1 and counseled to drop at P5 if "can’t cope with hcl".

“All take HCL from P1” is an option available for SAP schools only leh.

P5 is parents’ / student’s option. Can continue if you insist.

P6 is school’s decision. Must stop if you don’t meet the requirements.

Hook on tuition or wat…for me I did feel insecure to pull dd1 from her tuition when in primary. The feeling is confirmed over the concern on whether it really helps her or not. This year dd did mention that she thinks she just got quite minimal benefits from tuitions. She asked me not to waste money… sometimes I m also in dilemma… but one thing good is when you have no tuition to start with now seems that the insecure feeling is not much there… but yala, think of psle, it is just going to be a matter of when to restart.

                Some actual reasons -

                1. both parents working, especially
                - when office hours are long
                - or one/both are based overseas
                - or flies often

                2. one/both don't speak a language proficiently

                3. not familiar, or don't want to be bothered, with details of educational requirements
                4. too much money; need to support the economy.
