Hi,
Can anyone tell me if you have to decide on selecting HCL for sec 1 tomorrow on the 20th.
What are the pros and cons for selecting HCL? I understand that if you do HCL, you don’t have to do it in A-level
Thanks in advance.

Pros :
- 2 bonus points for O levels if you pass both HCL and ENG
- Can be used to replace 1st language ( ENG ) for O levels
- If you pass HCL in O levels, you don't have to do Chinese in JC, gives you more time to focus on other important subjects
- Is more advanced than normal chinese, student will be able to learn more
- More opportunities? ( not very sure about this, the people who took HCL in my Primary school were given more opportunities / priority though eg. overseas trip etc. )
Cons :
- May be more demanding, some students may not be able to cope
- Have to take HCL O levels at Year 3, then take the normal Chinese paper at Year 4 ( please correct me if I'm wrong )
I am not in the IP track, so the 2 bonus points is very important ( to get into a good JC ).
Please correct me if any of the above information is wrong, not sure if I remember them correctly. ^^
Hope this helps.
Thank you. -

Haneyi:
You will sit for Normal Chinese \"O\" level exam at end of Sec 3. Most schools expect the student to get at least a B3 in the exam before the students can continue to do HCL in Sec 4.

Reported at 830am.
Hubby went along…so we managed to maximize resources like hubby buying books/uniforms while son and I waited to register. Thank goodness hubby went along as some books and files were missing. -
