snide remarks are definitely uncalled for. educators are supposed to be encouraging.

as for daughter's tutor, I did mention during last year's PTM that the tutor doesn't participate in school homework.

the class didn't understand what the math teacher taught, and she made a remark saying that what she taught the day before was wasted :slapshead:
2 other chers? What did the others do?

one made her stand throughout the lesson when she can't answer questions (seriously, is this the way to educate?)
I thought if students can't answer, the teacher would tell them to sit and explain.

the other one would make remarks like, 'is this work done with your tutor's help? or something related?'
what biz is his if the student has tutor?
I hope I'm not seen as an over-reacting parent...but in this modern time, this is not the way to teach.

Stand throughout the lesson is unnecessary. Did the teacher explain to her what she did not know how to answer eventually?

As for the 2nd teacher, depends on the tchr's tone I guess. If he is just trying to know if your DD truly understood the lesson and was able to do her work without help or she needed additional help to complete that piece of work, that would be something commendable actually. Not many teachers bother to find out, they just deliver their lessons, mark the work and that's it.
If everyone else received the same punishment, then the teacher wasn't just picking on the DD. Punishment may be inappropriate but could it be an escalation from previous incidents?

As for #2, I was also thinking the same as Funz. Could it be coz she has been struggling and then she put up a perfect piece of homewk? I used to have a student who was not interested in learning but just me helping her to complete her work.

Bullying is happening everywhere especially in schools. To think bullying only happens between kids but it also happens with teachers. I have my fair share of my child encountering bullies. My child once have a teacher that likes to give unsolicited comments that I find it very unprofessional of her. If you do not wish to encourage the students, by all means but don’t give unsolicited comments to bring them down especially when they are in their final year of school. Still, it never ends there. You thought changing schools will get better but then there is always others that we are not able to stop. Sad to say that teachers of today are no longer the way they used to; passionate and caring for kids. If you find one, that teacher is a rare gem amongst the many out there. There is no wrong in helping your child get through this bully. Disregard those who say you are over protective of your child coz it did not happen to them! If situation were to turn around, I am sure these people would share the same sentiments with you. That is why we are all made parents! We are here to protect our child until they are ready to fly. Talk to your child frequently and not put it aside until it is too late to resolve bullying issue. This is just my opinion.

I was previously a pri sch teacher and I must say that most teachers are still passionate about teaching and care a lot for the children. It is a really emotionally draining job, especially when parents are not available/willing to support in this learning journey. That said, there definitely are one or two with a less than ideal attitude towards teaching, but I suppose that’s inevitable no matter which industry you work in. Now that I’m a parent too I try to partner the school in whatever way I can - after all we all just want the best for our kids!

With regards to bullying, think having regular conversations with your child helps because then you will find out when these incidences happen early enough, before it becomes damaging. It’s OK to help alert the school if your child is afraid to do so, then the teachers can step in to do something. Also, think we should encourage our children to speak out when they see a bullying case happen. Q

Bullying is being mean to another kid over and over again. Bullying often includes:

Teasing
Talking about hurting someone
Spreading rumors
Leaving kids out on purpose
Attacking someone by hitting them or yelling at them

Bullying does not always happen in person. Cyberbullying is a type of bullying that happens online or through text messages or emails. It includes posting rumors on sites like Facebook, sharing embarrassing pictures or videos, and making fake profiles or websites.

I always circumvent with caution and try to minimize contact with such children and parents. Of course, it’s good when your child is not afraid of anyone and is not shy. Nevertheless, there must be the boundaries of the mind. I do not understand such parents, and now there are a lot of them!

Have anyone thought of using parental control app on your child’s phone ?

If yes, why?

If no, why ?

Yes to avoid my child from accessing explicit content and so I can manage his screen time as well. It's very hard to control him with his screen time without any supervision.

Upbringing of a child is an important part. How we teach our kids about surroundings, teaching them how to handle a situation is important. Kids don’t know what is right or wrong it’s us (parents) who tells them the difference. Now a days bullying in schools is common. As parents we should talk to our kids , teach and aware them about bullying and if any of our kid is a problematic one, we should take him/her for counseling. Either way i believe schools aren’t safe anymore be it bullying or any other reason. Choosing Online school over traditional schools is something safe and best these days.
