Same same… choice of secondary sch is critical to a youth’s life path… I was never "kanchong" for primary sch, my DS is in a very low profile neighborhood school. Going by his school’s statistics, he has to be top 10 in standard to be in the running for those competitive sec schs.

when are sec schools’ open house usually held? besides COP, the most important consideration is accessibilty to me since most sec schools have no school bus service. unfortunately there are not many choices near my place.

I have been trying to read up the a few different discussion threads to estimate open house dates eg. River Valley High School - open house this year was on 26th Nov 2011. I do not know of any centralized website showing list of open houses dates. Anyone knows?

Accessibility was the BIGGEST concern when I selected pri school for my DS, so he is enrolled into school next door, we can crawl there from home. But for sec school, a bus or MRT journey of 30 - 45 mins is acceptable. Imagine if your DS / DD qualify for RI or RGS or HSI or NYGS
will you let distance ban you?

piggybank - i will not consider RI or HSI for my boy even if he can make it because they are just too far from my place. I feel that if he is really good, he should be able to excel in any decent school, not necessary must be those top notch schools.

              Dear 7788,

The world will be more sane if there are more confident parents like you.

I have a question, is NUS or NTU far from your house? or is Cambridge or Harvard University nearer?

Ok. ok …I am trying to be naughty, like I mentioned my DS is enrolled in the most low profile neighborhood pri sch - my choice due to accessibility and he is now happy and during well - a big fish in a small pond.

Don't mind I drop in here to kaypoh....now holiday mood 😂

                My ds is 2012 P6.

Secondary school open house is usually end of academic year ie mid-Nov onwards. usually weekends. The school will annouce on the website, there is no centralised annoucement but this year we were very fortunately to have members contribue the information and consolidated on to a thread - made it easier for everyone :imcool: Just check the schools website towards end of academic year or here at KSP...there should be some information floating around, no need to make predictions now 😉

Some schools conduct the open house before PSLE results, some after. Regardless, there are not many weekends/days so you may face the situation of more than one schools you are interested in having open house on the same day. Hence, no harm to visit some at end of P5. We did go for a few last month, ds get to have a look at the schools, listen to the principals and kind of mental orientation for me before the P6 year

                Just my 2cents worth.

Is never too early to start a thread now for 2013 psle. Psle

journey starts in p5 as most of the syllabus would be covered in p5. The foundation will need to be firmly laid in p5.

Btw… My DS will be taking psle next year and I am speaking from my own experience;)

Is it too early for a p4 to attend open houses? I am not joking cos if open houses r usually at end of academic yr, then we prefer to go see look at end of p4 As end of p5 seems a bi t rush.
