        TheAnswer:
I will start the ball rolling..

During the one week break, I designed the study timetable with DS. It is meant to be a guideline.

DS is in the afternoon session.

        Monday: 930am - 1030am Chinese
        Tuesday: 9.30am - 1030am English
        Wednesday: 9.30am - 10.30am Maths
        Thursday: 9.30am - 10.30am English Creative Writing
        Friday: 9.30am - 10.30am Chinese Creative Writing

Every week I will allocate some pages of work for him. The worksheets are either created by me or taken from a top school paper or good assessment book.

I am only around to supervise him on certain mornings (mostly Tuesdays and Thursdays) as I have tuition on some mornings.

For Maths I have finished the topics for the coming SA1 so he is doing his revision papers.

For English, he is working on the various sections. I allocate at least 3 sections to practice every Tuesday. I also give him spelling, meaning and sentence construction to do.
Hi, the one hr daily session is only meant for doing assessment? What abt the time taken for teaching/coaching your chld? How do you incorporate into the study timetable? When I teach my DD for one subject, I usually take abt 2-3 hrs to teach a subject. That has yet included doing assessment! Am I too long winded in teaching?
My Dd is in P5 now. I find that if I don't explain to her thoroughly, she may unknowingly miss out something. So, on daily basis, my Dd does her hw from 5pm (after supplementary class) to 9pm (she is very slow in writing! :frustrated: ), then I'll teach her from 9-11pm. That leaves no time for assessment. I'll have to push the assessment to the next day. Poor Dd nvr have time to relax except in Jun/Dec holidays. I always tell myself if only she writes fast, she can sleep early or watches some TV. I have been training her to write fast since she is P1 but dunno why it just can't get into her... :frustrated: :slapshead: sometime I just pray that I have a magic Wang :xedfingers: to change her speed !!!

Hi, the one hr daily session is only meant for doing assessment?

Monday, Wednesday & Friday: for assessment book only. My mum supervises him.
Tuesday & Thursday: for coaching/going through corrections and doing assessment book.

What abt the time taken for teaching/coaching your chld?

I coach my son mainly during holidays (1 week march/sept holidays, June, nov & dec. One hour every weekday ). I have covered everything for his SA1 during the march holidays. I'm very busy during school term. I only clear his doubts (school homework) at night if any. He can manage his school work on his own easily.

How do you incorporate into the study timetable? When I teach my DD for one subject, I usually take abt 2-3 hrs to teach a subject. That has yet included doing assessment! Am I too long winded in teaching?

Different kids have different abilities. My P2 boy can do 6-8 pages of challenging Maths in 30 mins with minimal help. I give him extra work according to how much he can finish in one hour. If he concentrates during that one hour, he will have no issues finishing them. If he doesn't, he is wasting his own time. Too bad for him.

Your DD is in P5 now. Honestly, you should not be sitting besides her to coach for hours. She should be able to self study. If she miss something, she needs to learn to be more careful next time. 2-3 hours? Most kids do not have such long attention span.

i am extremely disappointed & feel helpless with my P3 boy.

He is extremely stubborn n bad learning attitude. We spent whole wkend to revise chinese n english compo with him.At the end, he told me he didn’t follow the tactics n didn’t use any phrases which we n tutors taught him. Instead,he used some other words which we didn’t teach him. For e.g. he used "declared" to replace "said"…yet,he doesn’t even know what does it mean.

even in maths, he refused to follow the shorter methods we teach him, or using any modeling. I’ve scolded, beaten, punished, soft talked…none of this works.

Now,i’ve stopped teaching.Let him fail his oral since he will not follow what will be taught.

I don’t know why nowadays children r so hard to teach. We tried to train him to learn independent.Normally,we’ll go thru the topics with him 1st,leave the reference books wf him.If we sit besides him, we realise he becomes very dependent n keep asking us.We wanna him to tink,so we give him some hints, ask him some Qs,n make him do himself.

I am getting more n more do not understand my own son. If i teach him,he doesn’t listen;i get him to do by himself,he oso not willing to try.

he said he didn't know how to use. But some of these words r simple ones, for e.g. if wanna express scare, just mentioned his face turns as white as sheet.

I made him did few compos, revised the tactics n phrases wf him.I also read compo, newspaper, storybooks wf him if time permits...having doing that since he was P1.

Knowing he is easily confused, i encouraged him to remember words he is comfortable with...
