I don’t know why nowadays children r so hard to teach. We tried to train him to learn independent.Normally,we’ll go thru the topics with him 1st,leave the reference books wf him.If we sit besides him, we realise he becomes very dependent n keep asking us.We wanna him to tink,so we give him some hints, ask him some Qs,n make him do himself.

I am getting more n more do not understand my own son. If i teach him,he doesn’t listen;i get him to do by himself,he oso not willing to try.

i am extremely disappointed & feel helpless with my P3 boy.

He is extremely stubborn n bad learning attitude. We spent whole wkend to revise chinese n english compo with him.At the end, he told me he didn't follow the tactics n didn't use any phrases which we n tutors taught him. Instead,he used some other words which we didn't teach him. For e.g. he used \"declared\" to replace \"said\"....yet,he doesn't even know what does it mean.

even in maths, he refused to follow the shorter methods we teach him, or using any modeling. I've scolded, beaten, punished, soft talked....none of this works.

Now,i've stopped teaching.Let him fail his oral since he will not follow what will be taught.
Did he tell you why he didn't follow the tactics and use the phrases?

he said he didn't know how to use. But some of these words r simple ones, for e.g. if wanna express scare, just mentioned his face turns as white as sheet.

I made him did few compos, revised the tactics n phrases wf him.I also read compo, newspaper, storybooks wf him if time permits...having doing that since he was P1.

Knowing he is easily confused, i encouraged him to remember words he is comfortable with...

Can understand your frustration. But he is still young, be patient with him. Give him time and space to digest what he has learnt. I know it is easier said than done. We all have such \"why are you like this? :frustrated: 😢\" moments.

You can leave the teaching to his teachers and tutor or you can continue teaching him when you are less frustrated. Whatever it is, don't give up on him, your support is important to him.

how to help him to internalise?

I'm no expert. Not sure how much I share here will make sense or be useful to you.

There are times when I teach dd1, P2, she will not get it and I don't understand why. I will try many ways to reach out to her but no use. After a few days or a few wks or even longer, she gets it. I don't know how but she does. So I guess she needs the time to figure it out or internalise it. Another example ds' tingxie, K2, no matter how I try he doesn't get it, the next morning I asked him again without letting him see the words again, he's able to write it out for me. I guess he needs the time for his brain to work on them.

Some other times it's me who needs some time to think how to reach out to dd1 to help her understand. Dd1 thinks in a very weird way I discovered after working with her for some time. So I need to explain in the way that she can understand. It's not that she has learning difficulties. It's just that her way of thinking is strange.

For your ds, I find it interesting that he used declared instead of said. I feel said is easier to write than declared.

I don't know what to suggest to help your ds be more comfortable with the tactics and vocab that you want him to learn.

For my dd1, when we first starting spelling, she was rather bad at it. So I approached it with printing the words in different colours, colour by syllabus, and I used lower case scrabble like tiles. I have a few steps using the printed words and tiles to help her to learn. It was interesting and fun for her. Gradually, she didn't need those and is able to learn it her way, which I don't interfere.

Since your ds still feel he's not comfortable with the phrases and tactics after you revised with him, try to think of a way to enable him to be at ease with the ideas. Usually when I'm stuck, I will use games and other hands-on activities to help them understand. Try other ways which is not just pen and paper.

Not knowing much abt your ds, I can only share what I do with my kids. I think even at P3, can still engage in fun activities to learn.

                    All the best

thanks a lot 😄 He always tells me that he couldn't concentrate in the class because very noisy. I notice few of his classmates r very naughty n talkactive.

Last night,i fed up n kept all the books n told him i am not teaching him anymore coz he was listening. If he concentrates,he could do well

:thankyou: For compo, i cut n pasted all the words/sentences which he has learnt thru tuition or tingxie.Times running out,so I taught him the words/phrases which he has learnt b4 than introducing new ones for him.Yet,he chose declared. He told me \"Said\"=\"declared\",he saw this word from creative writing book.

What's most amusing,he used the word:\"listen at side of ear\".I asked him where he learnt this sentence. He said he converted Chinese idioms(耳边风) to English idioms.I asked him,why can't u used \"turn into deaf ears\" which i taught u b4?? He said,\"must be creative\" He said sometx u told me i could convert the words from chinese to english.I said, yes, but not all words.
