Hi
Soooo quiet,so lonely here.anybody’s DC is learning cello, care to share!! -
I think no reply probably because cello is not a popular instrument compared to violin or piano
My dd passed grade 3 with merit some time ago. Was learning grade 7 scales end of last year when I decided to put her cello lessons on hold due to busy schedule in school (staying back almost everyday). Probably will let her continue end of next year.
How's your dc's progress? How old is he? Got time for daily practice?
I didn't hire a SSO teacher. Checked their fees and really :yikes: -

She has grown taller so we would probably change hers to a full size when it's time to resume lesson.
She learned 1 year in school as CCA in p2 which is practically a waste of time, not much technique being taught. The good thing is it established her interest. At her request, we hire a private teacher for her. So another 20 months (with many breaks in between) with private teachers when she was in p3 & p4.
Her progress is rather fast with one to one coaching (probably because she's older). I believe it shouldn't be a problem for her to pick up again in future, provided she can spare the time to practise daily.
Problem is there is not much spare time. Higher primary kids have lots of homework and need stay back in school often. I foresaw her workload increasing further in p5 so I persuaded her to put her music on hold last year. Have to prioritise for her if it means she can sleep earlier. She has other interests so I feel that it's alright to put music on hold.
It's good that your ds starts so early before school workload gets overwhelming.
