West Spring Primary

Dear Parents,
Thank you so much for your wonderful support.
At the close of our phone line yesterday evening, we’ve about 300 interested participants who had already registered for the chat session on this coming Sunday at Zhenghua Secondary.
Additional seats have already been added to the hall. We’re now in the process of packing the goodies bag, which will also include a Lego sample kit (which will be part of West Spring’s Play-based Experiential Constructionism approach to learning).Your child will get to experience learning through Lego whilst the chat session is going on.
The phone line is closed from now till 5.00 pm today. We will begin contacting all parents who have registered with us for gentle reminder. Also, the phone line will not be answered as Mdm Noor will be at Zhenghua Secondary School for preparations this afternoon.
We apologise for the inconvenience caused and look forward to seeing all of you on Sunday! -
Thank you so much.

Hi Parents,
I attended the chat yesterday and took down notes to share. Very good session as the P and VP shared with us about West Spring. They were very approachable, open and honest about things and also clarified a number of our queries. The service at registration counter for the chat was really excellent. No long queues at all as there were 3 counters set up! Well done West Spring!... -
Hi parents,
Sadly I had missed the chat session last Sunday.
From the feedback of some mummies, West Spring seem to be a fairly good school.
May I know since it is a new school, so does the school only take in P1 students? Meaning that 2014 will be the first batch and the students will have no seniors? -

Only p1 students. There will be no higher level in the sch but if there is a demand for p2-p6,they will look into it.Hi parents,

For every pri 1 kids entering the new phase of life, every sch will hv a buddy system to help the kids ard n during recess time. Since west spring is a new sch, there will be no seniors to help out. The principals are looking into the idea of letting zenghua sec students (the big brothers n sisters) to help the p1 kids during recess time.
Someone did ask if parents can be allowed into the sch premises during recess time n the principals said they will discuss this issue as they wld want the kids to be independent. -
Thanks okea for clarifying!
Just that my hubby was commenting later when they get to secondary school, maybe lost lol!
Told him he is thinking too advance.
From the look of it, I may not stand a good chance since I stay more than 1km away

We will be having secondary students to come to West Spring Primary School to help out during recesses, since we do not have seniors as yet. The West Spring Primary School pupils will be having their recesses in West Spring Primary canteen and secondary school students will join them within the premises. -

Frm the parents' positive response, think west spring will have alot of kids registering. Hopefully, my boys can go in sucessfully w/o balloting. Will be switching frm SV to WS.
Me too, i'm within 1-2km range. -
Just wondering if West Spring Primary will be setting up a Facebook page ?

I’ve been quietly following this very interesting and active forum since it was set up. I’m so excited to have a new school in Bukit Panjang that will offer our children a well-balanced education through play-based learning. That is now what is done at kindergartens and so it’s good to see a natural flow of this into the primary school transition than to do just boring textbook teaching or computer learning all the time. My neighbour has a child in a school which focuses a lot of learning through computers in the school. Now her child is addicted to computers everyday and also bad for eye sight.
I’ve read a lot of research done on the need to engage children in meaningful play to help build their confidence level, self esteem and get them interested in studying the subject through play based learning. Very effective. So, I was so glad to hear that there’ll be a school in Bukit Panjang that will focus on play-based learning. If children from young hate studying from young and not interested, they’ll not like going to school and next time PSLE problem.
I was one of the kiasu parents at the chat session on Sunday.Very good impression of the experienced school leaders who come from schools with very good programmes.I heard the principal designate of West Spring Primary who’s now the principal of Yangzheng Primary , her school so popular must go through balloting every year because of the good and experienced teachers she recruited and the good programmes and results of the pupils ever since she took over the school 5 years ago. She said at the chat that her team of permanent teachers recruited for west Spring are from good schools and even SAP schools. I’m so glad to hear this because very important to have stable, good , experienced and committed teachers.
My child only due for P1 in 2016.But I’ve already made up my mind to enrol her in West Spring. Good luck to all parents at Phase 2C for West Spring. You’re the lucky ones to work with the school as the pioneer batch of parents to make West Spring a good school in Bukit Panjang. -
Like many others, I too have been a silent reader ever since this forum set up. Very informative. My son is only 4 years old now but I very kiasu and so start to try to know about primary school now. I also happen to have a relative teaching at the school where the principal designate is now the principal of that school and will be the principal of west spring from next year.So I kpo a bit to try to find out more. My relative said that ever since this principal took over Yangzheng Primary, the school went up and became very popular in Serangoon. The school is noted to have good school discipline. So one parent in this forum talk about importance of discipline.Well, this new principal is very into discipline of children because my relative said that the principal feels that there must be discipline before learning can take place. So I’m sure West Spring pupils will be instilled discipline from young age which I personally feel is very important.Nowadays, many children not well-disciplined at all. Some even very spoilt.
My relative also said the principal focuses a lot on character development.Every Wednesday in the school hall, the principal can talk for 30 minutes to pupils try to inspire them.So many pupils love the school very much and many of them after leaving the school come back to visit and help out. My relative say the principal emphasizes on this Chinese word (my Chinese not good so I can’t remember the words) about being grateful and showing gratitude.
I also read the school leaders profiles in the school website and like it that they are open door policy and have good relationships with parents.I think I can see that already through the organizing of the chat session I saw on the website.I think next year I must attend the chat session for my boy.
I hope my contribution will give other parents in this forum more ideas about West Spring. I look forward to meeting all of you when I too become a member of West Spring in a few years time.
