Victoria School

er what's your point? :?
err, i assume parents may like to know where some prominent leaders - be it military, political, perm secretary etc are from which school and what they did there in terms of CCA (ECA) ...
General Neo is from Victoria School and is NCC cadet interested in military / defence matters in foundation secondary school years. I should had added this under Sec Schools' sub section, but added here by mistake and administrator helped me transfer it here... i may CC another post to Sec SChool section when free... -
Major General Neo Kian Hong (former Chief of Army) and current Chief of Defence Force (head of all SAF's 3 services of Army Airforce, Navy ) or 三军总长 was a NCC cadet during his Victoria School days.

unlike other typical SAF (Overseas) Scholars [SAFOS] who became Colonels or Generals relatively quickly but almost non have Special operations/Special forces training or background, General Neo is Singapore's first ever Chief of Defence Force to be Ranger-qualified (earlier on he was Singapore's first ever Chief of Army / Service Chief to be Ranger-qualified). General Neo is also a Guards (Khaki beret) officer -

what a relief… newly announced IP programme brings Cedar Girls to the Victoria family, which Victoria School started in 1876.
now we dont need worry some govt appointed VS/VJC principal forcing us to go co-ed from Sec 1 to 4… and (hopefully) dont need worry about VS and VJC competing for students…
when first hea…rd VS and Cedar is confirmed (on Straits Times) as new IP schools on 30 …Aug…, my 1st worry is that VS might go IP separately, while happy VS doing IP and can keep retaining better students, i do worry that would put us in direct Competition with VJC (similar as IF VJC started the last year proposed "6yr IP") …
this outcome is the best for all 3 schools , VS need not go Co-ed & with IP status can ensure VS continue to attract top boys students (while maintaining O level options), Cedar tie up with VJC , & VJC can have feeder schools with good IP students from VS and Cedar in future (and VS - VJC dont compete for students!)" -
Does it really make a difference? :? VS has already been feeding those who have done well in sec 1 and 2 to VJC for IP program. The only difference may be more boys will be given a chance to do IP. For weaker students, they still have to take the O level instead. In fact, if the boys are given the option to do IP when they enter sec 1 next year, does it mean that by sec 3 they can opt out if they don't have the cut while other boys will be given the place instead? If this is the case, the present system of choosing sec2 boys for the IP in VJC is less disruptive. Unless of course, they do away with the present system. I'm
that DS3 get chosen for the program next year and doesn't lose the chance due to the new changes. :xedfingers: -

p/s: I don't know why I like this school so much even though I am not related in any way with this school. Haha -

i somehow disagree and i think IP makes a difference.... esp. so since the PM say IP is \"good\".... all top grade schools already gone IP - IF even St Nics, Cath High and SJI and MGS all gone IP and leaves VS behind the situation for VS would be rather unpromising...in attracting top scoring PSLE boys into VS.... and if VS didnt even go IP, more wont consider VS and go to Cath HIgh, ACSi or SJI ... so it is abit of no choice..... but go IP way.
but the lastest IP-cum O level is very ideal for VS to continue her traditional as good school for whole spectrum of Singapore... not just the rich, not just those of chinese ancestry... including all races, including eurasians....& including a significant students OF middle or lower working class families .... because the COP of VS is around top 10-15% ..... with IP, VS can get the top 5-10% doing IP ... and yet still retain classes of O level course to cater to the rest of the boys in top 12-15% doing O level which likely quite a number from ordinary households staying in HDB flats.... VS can continue maintaining her background as a school for all races and social classes... not just for the rich and advantage who may better qualify for IP classes through tuition... or better study environment...
however, VS cant afford to ignore the IP students as it is clear that since some top schools went SAP in 80s , independent earlier on and later IP scheme... more top PSLE boys scorers had chosen Chinese High and RI to be their first choices and maybe other SAP schools, relatively lesser come to VS.... unlike in the 50s - early 80s when VS is able to get really top end primary school boys.... so i think this IP cum O level path is the ideal outcome and can REALLY help REVERSE the trend ... Kudos to all VS old boys who made this possible...! -

this, since is from FB and from the context is from an old Victorian commenting / exchanging views with other Victorians ... not official OVA statement...; this should be quite clear. i say just in case any one took it as OVA statement ....Extracted from OVA's facebook:
