I had my heart set on my son going to VS after his PSLE. However, he has other ideas and wants to go to the school that he DSA’d for. VS has all along appealed me to because of its strong bonding among the students and an all-rounder in academic ability and sporting culture. When is Victoria’s Open House? I think it would be good to attend to get a feel of the school.

The open house will be in November.

Once I have the exact date, I will post it.

My son is also thinking about VS,ACS(I),NJC and SST. ACS(I) is too much of a branded school with all the rich kids going there. VS seems perfect for my son as it is not too stressful and the school seems fun and vibrant just like VJC. I just heard that VS is not affiliated to VJC this year. Is that true? Because my son wants to get into VJC and having an affiliation makes the job easier

            Hello lalala,

My son got 25+ for his PSLE and he wanted to try the schools like NJC, ACSI and VS.

We realised that both NJC and ACSI did not suit the needs of my son. So, we decided to opt for VS. After my son enrolled in VS, his studies have been quite good, like top 5 in the class.

He has a wider social circle than before as all his friends gets along well with him. He did not used to like sports and had no stamina before, but after enrolling in VS, he managed to get a silver in his NAPFA test after training.

VS is also very strong in the Arts. For this year's SYF (Singapore Youth Festival) almost all the performing groups got a gold. It was a great achievement!

For sports, VS was the ONLY school to have won both Gold medals for 'B' Division and 'C' Division more than 3 times.

But most importantly, VS has an extremely strong bond with each other as a school. You may wonder why I say so. After the EMD (Evening of Music and Drama), all the people performing there sang the VS anthem and sang the VS cheer. The boys were like in a trance when they were singing the cheer. It was a very touching moment to see as everyone(including Victorians who were audiences) came in and sang together.

Victoria School is 'Always Something More'.

The school is all-rounded in areas such as Academic, Sports and the Arts. The boys come from all walks of life. However, most of them are cheerful, confident, presentable and athletic.

VS shapes everyone to be a Gentleman, Professional and a Sportsman.

That is why I enrolled my son into the school and I have never regretted making this decision.
VS is a good school. I have observed that up till now, VS boys still call their male teachers \"Sir\", something which I didn't expect other school students to do. I remember that I greet every teacher in VS when I was a student there years ago. And VS students trust VS students.

Victoria seems like an ideal school to everyone. Good acamdemics, polite students, fun and vibrant culture, affiliation to the 3rd best JC( if it’s still afiliated),good CCAs records and the enviroment is not too stressful as the students dot compete with each other(unlike RI).

There has also been talks that VS will be part of VJC for a IP programme and VJC has a all girls school.

                Identity

Students, teachers and even the principal of the school are often referred to and addressed as \"Victorians\" or \"Gentlemen\".

Victoria School sticks to its colonial roots. Victorians are expected to address all male teachers as 'Sir' and female teachers as 'Ma'am'.

The word \"Victorian\" in bold black letters across the back of the yellow PE T-shirt makes students wearing it very identifiable.

                Victorian Spirit
Victorian Spirit is the sense of pride that the schools seeks to instil in every Victorian when he first enters the school as well as the patron saint of Victoria School. The Spirit, it is said, continues to live in the Victorian even many years after he has left. The Victorian Spirit is most evident during competitions when principal, teachers and students engage in cheering for the school.

                Secondary One Bonding Camp
On the first week of school, all Secondary-one Victorians have to attend a three-day-two-night camp at MOE Jalan Bahtera Adventure Centre. They participate in various activities, physical, interactive and character-building.

                  Affiliation

Victoria School is affiliated to Victoria Junior College (VJC), which was established in 1984 to replace the Pre-University classes in VS.

VJC provide VS students a choice to continue a two-year junior college education within the Victorian family after their secondary education. VS boys choosing to enter VJC get two bonus points off their 'O' level L1R5 academic aggregate. Entry to VJC is open to all secondary school students in Singapore.

VJC has a small portion of its total student intake enrolled through its own Integrated Programme (IP), in which VS students have an equal opportunity of enrolling.

My eldest son is currently sec 3 in VS. These 3 yrs, I have seen him grown from a shy, soft spoken and nerdy 12 yr old boy to a confident, resposible and sporty 15 yr old young man.

Some time back, we were having this conversation in the car that we both agreed VS has transformed him. The school has done so much in grooming him to be what he is now.

Now that he will be facing O level next yr, he is determined to do well so that he can continue his education within the Victorian family. 😄
