      phankao:
I just checked with my son about the Combined Science. He confirmed that it is only Phys/Chem. Well, some students would take this option, why not? Students who opt to take more Humanities subjects would, I'm sure. Just like Students who do more Science Subjects would likely take Combined Humanities.

Thanks, phankao for your confirmation. I agree that all schs should exercise flexibility in offering subjects such as combined sci as there will always be 'takers'. But in reality, this is not the case for some. More often than not, pupils are subject to the school's discretion on subjects being offered.
So parents & pupils need to find out more info before selecting their schools.

        Jennifer:
About subj combi for sec 3, are the options same for 'O' lvl track and IP track?

Hi Jennifer, nice to 'meet' you here!
From what I've gathered from my friends & relatives, nobody in single track IP schools take combined science so I am also wondering if combi sci are not being offered in IP.

I am also wondering if those schools that only mentioned Bio, Phy, Chem and none on Science (phy/ chem) in the 'sec sch selection booklet' do not offer combined sci at all except CHS.
SNG is one of those which does not offer combined sci for its pupils in o lvl track and thus it does not mention Sci (phy/ chem) in the booklet. My friend's dd does better in languages & humanities & they are now 'stuck'.

Hey, jennifer. I chanced upon your sharing when I went to the njc ksp forum to 'revisit' my alma mater. So you should be well-versed in the IP subj combi in njc. Won't chs ip subj combi be similar to that of njc since ultimately they will gear towards 'A' lvls? Also, this will facilitate mobilities between ip teachers.

Perhaps you can share with us what are the subjects offered to your ds in njc ip.

The booklet did not specifically mention which are the subjects offered for chs o lvl trk and/or IP.

I confirmed with my girl (she was in SNGS last time) , who said that Yeah, SNGS didn't offer Combined Science. The worst thing I remember that for them, E-Lit was a compulsory subject and that was one of my girl's worst subject(never passed until actual O-levels), but she couldn't drop it bc it was compulsory. ;(

Hey, but CHS is known for flexibility in choosing subjects they want to do for O-levels as long as it satisfies MOE's requirement for O-levels.... \"After 2006, students are able to choose the subjects that they want to study for the examination; previously, students have to choose from sets of fixed subject combinations that the school offers.\"

NJC don't have combined science lor. haha. Just whether do Triple or Double Science, whether to take extra Humanities subject or not.

This is abit Off-topic, but here's a slide presentation on Academic Curriculum for Sec 3 & Sec 4 for NJC. Not sure if it is too confusing for others to read though!

:thankyou: phankao for all the info. (Btw, your nickname means 'sleeping' in cantonese or is it in thai?)

The link on njc JH3/4 subjects are an eye opener! :yikes: They are so ALIEN to me. Reading it is asphyxiating enough. Lives as students were much easier some 20-30 yrs ago...

Wonder if chs ip will be similar. :scared:
A friend attended the sng ip open house last year. If my memories didn't fail me, the sng principal is the key personnel overlooking the joint ip & establishing the new jc. She mentioned that she will ensure the new jc to surpass XX (you-know-which-sch) one day!

Frankly, I am one who advocates health over preeminence. Should I :siam:

Actually some of the modules are similar for the language arts and maths portion although im not sure about the depth as im comparing year 1 and the prezo is for year 3/4. Example they have done flowers for alganon this year and will do Macbeth in year 2.

The geography / history for njc looks very interesting.

I think CHS is not as gung ho as sngs.... They seem happy to continue in their laid back ways......

Me too. That's why the 1st question I asked in my posts is about Lunch šŸ˜‚

I like NJC an hour lunch time and most of the days r our regular hours, not the 3pm type.
