NJC is a hot choice, may the best students get into NJC. πŸ˜„

Of cos, no doubt, NJC remains a hot choice.

But the question posted earlier was whether at 263, he should goto RI, HCI or NJC ?

Generally, the best students goto RI and those that cannot goto RI then maybe goto NJC. πŸ˜„

That said, I am not implying NJC is not a good school. πŸ˜„

          atutor2001:
From my observation of the aggregates, I think the average of Chinese and English is higher than other years (definitely above 75 marks - lowest A).

At the same time, the stand deviations of Math and Chinese are also higher than other years.

With this combination, student who get a \"low A\" for Chinese, English or Math will suffer. If their mark is below the average, (say 79), then their T-score will be less than 50. The drop will be even greater for Chinese & Math because of the increase in standard deviation.

Therefore, greatest advantage goes to those who do well for Chinese (especially) and Math because of the increase in standard deviation. Conversely, those with low A for Chinese and Math will have lower T-score than normal.

Because of the increase in averages, those who get low A for English, Chinese (again) will have a lower T-score than normal.
Does MOE release the standard deviation of all the subjects for every Year ?

Generally girls score better PSLE results than boys (that explains the 4-5 point gap between RI and RGS) so I expect NJC's cut off point to fall square between RI's 261 and RGS's 265, because NJC is co-ed school, and some bright girls who may not opt for RGS, they may get into the next best NJC choice instead. Also while some bright kids prefer separate boys school and girls school, others like co-ed schools like NJC and Dunman High which take in bright kids regardless of gender.

last year's \"guinea pigs\" got into NJC with only COP 259, so maybe they are lucky \"guinea pigs\" after all to get into a top JC at age of 13! πŸ˜„

Thanks Fairy. To play safe, I will probably include 3 choices : HCI, RVHS (non-SBEG), ACSI. How would u rank these 3 ?

              Thank you πŸ™‚
Among the three schools, I would also put HCI as my first choice. Between RVHS & ACSI, it's a bit tricky. Depends on what you prefer. One is very Chinese-based, the other is very westernised. Also ACSI offers IB while RVHS, Á' Level.

Unfortunately no so far with regard to the standard deviation. For averages, I remembered my kid's schools did compare their own averages to the national averages on the day of results release, in the past.
