Hi HashroopHi its me again..
My son got just 178 pls advise if I shud still opt for St Pat as first choice as it is affliated to St Stephens. What is the school like? Can anyone pls help with info on Monfort which is in hougang and I live there. I was recommeded Compassvale. I will make that one of my choices too. With Xinmin COP at 188, will my son have a chance, what are the odds.?I am also looking at Anderson but their COP is 189! Pls advise if Im just wasting my time with Xinmin and Anderson..
I don't know a lot but i would still like to help ...
Your son is from St Stephen's? If so , do u know COP for St Patrick's (for afilliation). I think/assume all PSLE students were given a booklet with the schools' COP. I do not know St Patrick's COP . If your son can make it (via the affiliation route from St Stephen's) , I would say \"just go for it\" however i do notice the distance (since u stay in Hougang).
I guess you can check St Gabriel or Montfort. If you do not mind co-ed school, you may try Holy Innocents. Good Luck & remember not to give up

Monfort is not bad in terms of character development. I went there recently for an event & am very impressed with the boys. Very polite & full of pride.
How about St Gabriel's?hashroop:

Compassvale is not too bad also. The kids are generally quite well behaved.
Xinmin's COP is too far off, don't think will have a chance though.
St Gab is not bad too. But my cousin was from there & we always hear stories of how he was bullied & beaten up at school. Honestly, we all know that it's his fault cos he likes to provoke people.
I personally will choose a boy's school as there's less distractions.
Maybe can consider St Andrew's (but I'm not too sure of the COP). -

Appeal to the school directly for which course may I ask? I'm a little bit of blur here, real sorry.Usually they won't encourage since she qualifies for Express course. Maybe you want to appeal to the school to get in directly?
Which area do you stay at?
I stay at Ang Mo Kio/ Yio Chu Kang, a 15 mins walk to Yio Chu kang mrt, so about 25 mins walk to Anderson.. -

Hi,mathsparkshi hashroop, lckua2008,
i rem checking just today that st pat's normal course is a band1 school. go check the annex in booklet 2. and it's affiliated to CJC. Things to look out for is school banding, affiliation, value-added.
Sorry, have passed son's booklets to his cousin earlier. so unable to check. His cousin didn't receive from teacher..speaks volumes of the child, teacher n parents actually.

For this area, another school I'll recommend is Peirce Sec. They do not have NT, so the discipline level there is higher. They just moved back to Bishan Park site after PRIME, so building is new too. They have an indoor sports hall if I recall correctly.Appeal to the school directly for which course may I ask? I'm a little bit of blur here, real sorry.

Their COP for Express is 209. -

Yes, my dd liked Peirce, she also highlighted the fact that there wasn't any NT there.. But her classmate said that wasn't a really good school. So she asked me if she qualified for N(A) but I've really no idea.. :?For this area, another school I'll recommend is Peirce Sec. They do not have NT, so the discipline level there is higher. I just checked, COP for St Gab's NA for non-affliated is 180. You can take the risk, but not 100% can get in.
You can try ST Gabriel's Secondary School, thoughhashroop:

Can anyone advise? My son scored 218. Should I pick as first choice East Spring Sec Sch or Coral Sec Sch? Which one is better?

Different people have different expectations from a school. What's good to one may not be the same for another. Especially since the comment came from someone who is not studying in the school. Ask around for other opinions since your DD likes the school. Students who like their school tend to do better in their studies. -

Thank you for sharing!Quoted from micko 07:
Yup me! I was in the pioneer batch of DSA students, non GEPer.
I graduated from NYGH last year, currently in HCI. I'll admit that at times the workload made me go but overall, I certainly wouldn't trade my NYGH experience for anything else.....
