DSA 2011

Hi RSS, Need some feedback - heard from one of my students that the General Ability component of the HAST was "totally non-verbal and all picture patterns", according to him exactly like the GAT in Raffles. Another said there were some logic, verbal reasoning and code type questions as well, which is what is consistent with last year. Could you check with your DS? Worried I may have given wrong info to someone who was asking! Thanks…[/quote]
Hi ktc100,
DS sat for the ACSI HAST. There were 3 components, i.e. Reading Comprehension, Mathematical Reasoning and Abstract Reasoning. The test lasted for about 2.5hours. Hope this helps. -
Hi ngbrdad,
Just find out from a list given from ds school that the GAT sessions of RI are 21,22 and 24 Jun, 8,13 and 15 Jul…
Just wonder other then GAT, interview, does geppers need to go for its ‘half day selection test’??? -

No GEP pupils need not attend half day selection camp. Geppers with SA1>80% just need to do interview, <80%, interview and GAT.Hi ngbrdad,

Yeah like RSS has said, half day selection test is for those who applied under the academic domain where they will be tested on the subject they applied for I presume.Hi ngbrdad,

We actually requested for GAT date on 8/7 but was told that GEP students are usually scheduled for earlier GAT so that they can have the interview earlier. -
Hi KTC100,
DS now zzzzz… Anyway we didnt prepare DS for HAST, neither will we prepare him for the RI GAT. So far 320 boys have sat for the ACSI HAST. There will be another round on July 8 or 9. All of DS classmates including DS himself finds the HAST easy. So it is a matter of relative performances, which is dependent on their own ability. Best advice is no need to know format, no need to prepare, just go and do it and enjoy the paper. -
thks ngbrdad and rss for the reply…

Hi RSS and thanks... my worry was that my info was based on my own son's HAST two years ago (he's now in Sec 2 IB), and my friend seemed think she was \"misled\" by what I told her from my experience! Just wanted to confirm whether, indeed, the format was that different - can't imagine the HAST changing so drastically. Anyway, you're right, it's water under the bridge... Thanks anyway...Hi KTC100,

Hi ktc 100,
Oh your ds is already in acsi year 2. May I ask why did he choose acsi? Why did he choose the ib instead of the conventional A level? Does he enjoy the school and the programme? What would his advice be to a p6 boy who is considering acsi among other schools like ri and nus high? Thanks -
Besides trying DSA for the top schools, anyone else tried for the neighbourhood schools before can share your experience please. Thanks.

Not every school has DSA and don't think that many applied for DSA to neighbourhood schools.
Once you apply and get it, it will be a big hassle if you change your mind and want to apply to better schools thru S1 if PSLE results permit.
