Ds too tired to tell me about the experiment. Only said that in the English section they were required to write an essay of at least 100 words in 30 minutes. Question is like if you can go back to the future, what would you do to change the current world. There is another question too, which I canโt remember. They are allow to choose one out of the 2 questions. However, he remember the food part, lunch was fried rice with cheese tofu and other stuff and tea was a chicken pie with chocolate eclair. They were also given a nice huber sack and a water bottle. Camp t-shirt is cool, very well done, took photo but not sure how to post it. Must learn from vlim.

Thought I saw quite a lot of Indians and PRCs, some Indonesians too. Not sure considered as locals or foreigners though.
Many of DS classmates at NUSH are foreigners (>30%). However, most of them studied in Singapore primary schools and took PSLE. So I guess that they are treated as locals. Some of his foreign, non-chinese classmates are even taking Higher Chinese!jtoh:
Observed that the selection camp for NUSHS is very international, quite a number of Koreans, PRC (alot), Indian, Nepalese (?). Felt so foreign when I was there.
There'll be even more foreigners in the higher levels - Koreans, PRCs, Vietnamese... -

My boy liked the tea break but not the food for lunch.
Think one question for English is something like if you can time travel, how would you like to save a major disaster.
Another question is if you are a prefect and if you friend is late what would you do. And also write about importance of punctuality. -

So only Science and English sections? Won't that be biased against those who are really strong in Math?
NUSH did away with the Maths section last year too. I guess with so many Maths competitions at primary schools level plus the Round 1 selection test, NUSH would know who the maths talents are. I guess those who are really strong in Maths would not be overlooked. It would be more difficult to sieve out those with strong aptitude in Science, hence, the emphasis on Science during the camp. After all, for the first 4 years in NUSH, there are 3 sciences vs 1 maths subject.
Correct this year no math. 5 sections was from previous year.ngbrdad:

Thanks Cestmoi for sharing. May I know how many girls were there in the Eng selection test today? My girl attended the earlier one.
:salute: Hi Maisu & Lenny08
I am new here...hope u dun mind me interrupting. I wld like to know what are roughly being tested in the Science domain actually? My sister's kid who will be in P6 next year is keen to try under the Science domain & wld like to know what are being tested. Hope u dun mind sharing.
My DD took part in the English domain @RGS today. After the test, while chatting with a parent, I realised that the topics tested as compared to the previous test, were different. Today my DD was tested as follows:
(1)Construct a story from a picture given. DD said it showed a lady in a wedding gown with a woman standing behind her. They are both looking at a man beside a horse and dark clouds loom above.
(2)Discuss within the grp on a poem entitled 'The Student'
(3)Write an essay on : State the possible consequences of instant fame to a teenager.
Hope the above would be able to help parents who are trying to prepare their kids next year & are following the forum.

Haven't paid much attention to SS yet.
Same here. Once there was a picture of a nurse and he said ๆๅกๅใHis Chinese teacher shook his head and sighed
. Sorry to bring this up here but anyone knows how to prepare for Social Studies prelim paper ? Have not seen any notes just stacks of articles.
DS seems to be doing a lot of readings on WWII, Hitler etc.
SO are they going to be tested on that ? -
soda:
Hi Soda, Sry I din find out the exact nbr for today's turnout but I can safely say that the queue for English domain was the longest, followed by Math and then Science & MT. English domain applicants were then sent to 2 classrooms and in each classroom, they are then spilt up to 2 groups. DD said that her grp made up of many elite primary sch students who were very expressive and outspoken! Competition is indeed very keen! I understand that quite a nbr of them were postponed from ur DD's batch cos it clashed with NYGH GAT test. My DD is the same case too. DD just mentioned that there are 10 ppl in her grp. Total estimate for the day abt 40...

DD is in year 1. Among foreigners, a Koreans community is quite visible from year 1 to 6 not forgetting PRC. There are smaller grp of Japanese too. At year 3, usually a higher no of vietnamese scholar (real gem in Maths & physics). I suppose Malaysian too. I guess NUSH is treated like a international Maths & Science school affiliated to NUS and most important without the \"O' n \"A\" level examination. The NUSH Diploma is recognised as a level above \"A\" level. Most of them take this as a platform to reputable oversea universities. -
You will find a number of foreign students coming into some of the top schools in Year 3 - usually students from Vietnam, PRC and Korea. These are your Math and Science whizzes. A result of annual talent scouting trips by top schools.
