85%!!Blur Dad:
Maybe to add on >80% also not 100% guarantee a CO.
Yes, maybe the bar will be raised next year. In order to be awarded a CO from RI or HCI, at least 85%.
I remember in 2009, when my DS was in P4, his senior in P6, scored 78% and awarded CO from RI.
My ds (P5) scored about 78% for the last CT. P6 CT will be more difficult, right??
The average marks we are mentioning exclude social studies. MT not HMT. So it is average of el, cl, maths and science.

Students normally do better in the oral, listening comprehension and the yu wen yin yong and hence pull up the overall chinese grade.
all the best next year.

Didn't find anything messy about the NJC DSA process. All clearly written out on their website. Except I think this time that they tried to use Email - all the errors came out. *oops*. hAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Last time when everything was via formal letter snail mail to individual students' addresses, no mistakes - maybe bc Principal have to proof-read and sign (or rather her secretary. Secretaries usually quite sharp-eyed).
NJC does have it's plus points :firefly38:
actually i have nothing against NJC (my DS never apply for NJC DSA anyway) but i feel that their DSA process seems a little complicated & disorganised, from what i have heard from parents in this forum, as well as from friends whose children have applied for NJC DSA. and now they make parents wait for the DSA results, past MOE deadline (2 sep)!!! :frustrated: :
although the admin side probably can be improved. Just typical civil service pattern.
Oh, and too many long-necks here.
I do wonder why some receive letters and some don't though. haha! Last time all receive, wat. LOL. -

It's not discounted. The GEP exams are centralized and generally tougher to score than a mainstream school's paper.
GEP always gets discounted entry criteria.PiggyLalala:
yes, do consider DHS for DSA. It is a good school and the DSA process is not complicated for GEP students. Just fill in the DSA form. No interview for my son last year. You can visit the school open house next year and get the DSA form. If I did not remember wrongly, I think the requirement for GEP overall is like 75%. -

What about DHS ? What is their cut-off for GEP ? Should also include them if <80% ?Zann:

My DS scored 77.x% for his SA1. Applied DSA to RI, HCI and ASCI. Got rejected from RI and HCI. WL for ACSI. The DSA journey was quite painful for my DS. Take sometime for him to get over it.
Well, I guess this is the price to pay for not scoring >80% and hoping to get DSA to the top boyโs school via DSA.
Cheers

Most Gep pupils would apply for DSA to DHS, (some even apply to all IP schs, real KS)
even w/o the intention of taking up the offer,
as itโs such a hassle free,
exempted fr GAT and no interviews required, so why not ??
their applications take up the slots of the DSA vacancies,
depriving other applicants who are really keen in their applications.
Shd have brought this issue out to the Pโs attention when met himโฆโฆ. -

think what phankao was saying is that \"discounted\" in terms of the absolute percentage figure.....

extracted fr DHS website
Students who attained 85% or higher score
(or 75% or higher score for Gifted Education Programme students) for average of P5 Overall and P6 Mid-Year Examination or its equivalent. -

Shd have brought this issue out to the Pโs attention when met himโฆโฆ.
It's true there are some kiasu GEP students who apply to several schools without the intention of taking up the offer. And when DHS makes it so easy for them, why not? The problem is DHS is happy to welcome them. Maybe if DHS made it harder for the students there would be more vacancies available for the mainstreamers. But wait a second, doesn't DHS set a limit on the number of GEP offers they make?
