hi ngbrdad, still no letter from NJC? this is indeed very unprofessional and inconsiderate of them! i have a really bad impression of this school now!
Have been reading this thread the past few weeks and seems that NJC still needs lots of improvement for the DSA exercise for Sec 1s. Granted that NJC only started taking in Sec 1s from 2008 and it's only a short 4 years for the school to draw experience from.

My DD also did not have a pleasant experience when applying for NJC LAST YEAR. On the day of the taking the HAST at the school, she had to to queue up for more than half an hour to pay $50 for the test fee. She was then asked to wait in the auditorium for another 45 minutes before the test began. This was because there were many other students who were queuing to make similar payment. If I recalled correctly, there were almost 700 students taking the HAST that morning.

According to the e-mail sent previously, the entire HAST was supposed to end by 12.30 pm. However, the whole thing only ended past 2 pm. Poor kids did not even had a chance to eat between papers as we were not forewarned of this possible delay. The school canteen was closed as it was a Saturday morning. Long queues were built up at the few vending machines available. Many gave up queuing as there was not enough time between papers to grab a bite.

Then there was a long wait of about 4 weeks for the HAST result. It was only after National Day when DD was informed that she made it to Round 2. She was invited to take part in some activity on the Saturday morning just before her P6 prelims. According to the school's website, the interview would be conducted the following Saturday (i.e. after the P6 prelims). By then, DD already has a CO from another school and thus she was not quite keen to continue her application with NJC (as she was rather frustrated on the day of the HAST with all the waiting and hunger pangs she had to put up with while doing the last paper). Nonetheless, DH and I persuaded her to attend the camp for exposure purposes and also to 'keep her options opened'.

Then, just 2 days before the activity camp, DD received an e-mail from NJC inviting her for an interview on the following week's Wednesday afternoon for about 15 minutes. She was dismayed upon receiving the e-mail as this would disrupt her revision plans for her P6 Science paper the following day. DH and I were also rather surprised by the sudden interview invitation as this would mean that either one of us would have to take leave from work to bring DD for the interview on Wednesday afternoon, and at such short notice.

After much discussion and deliberation, DD decided that she would like to withdraw her application with NJC. She was rather unhappy with the 'haphazardness' of the DSA application exercise was conducted.

Looks like many forumers here are again experiencing the same frustration which we felt last year. 🀷

              http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=17468

It would be interesting to know how many seats are taken up by DSA and how many seats open for S1 posting. Also is there any change in the total number of intake this year.
So parents( especially of P5 kiddos) those who are going for the open house could you please ask these Q during the Q and A. :please:
I don't think many P6 parents will be going, as we have already made too many visits to NJC for their famous DSA
BTW, we finally received the unsuccesful NJC DSA letter yesterday. 🀷
