      Otah:
We attended the session at HCI last year even though we were still half-hearted between RI and HCI. Food wise I won't say it was good spread. Only two big dishes : carrot cake and sandwiches but we went there with an open mind to get to know them better, not for the food. If you go just for the food you will end up wasting your time, won't you? I t was unlike the DSA talk which some perceived as marketing talk. They have various people to talk including parents and they presented some search programmes the students engaged with. Some students did confirm their believe in the school and appeared when term start in that school. My ds was one of them. He has been enjoying the school so much and proud of being one in that school. Just to share. When his psle result release, he had another chance to change his mind but he was still firm in his choice. We as parents can't rule over that as we do not want him to live in regret. It is his choice.

      Hi otah,

Thanks for sharing your experience. We are still unsure whether to go as my DS still cannot decide. But it is definitely good to find out more as my DS missed the open house that time thinking that there would be a school tour for those participating in APMOS. In e end dunno why no school tour so till now he's unsure of HCI.

Have missed this forum for quite a while cos Ds was not well for almost a week… now accompanying him to prepare for his SA2.

Was talking to my colleague this morning. Both her daughters are in RVH with one qualify to go RGS but choose not to. She commented that her daughter has never return home early since going to sec school. Her CCA could end up till 7pm. She said : "thank goodness they’re studying near home. Can you imagine if her school is far away from home? With CCA ending at 7pm, she could have reached home only at 8plus. Then having to rush for schoolwork, which she does almost everynight & wake up early next morning…"

Upon hearing this, I think maybe parents with a few DSA CO in hand now, should also take distance into consideration when choosing the IP sch. I believe all of us will definitely feel the pain when seeing our children going thru this…

            wise words indeed!

imagine, RVH and DHS are like at two different ends of SG, though DHS is nearer to town than to the East.

I didn't use to think this but now that my dd is in secondary school I do appreciate the distance factor. I can't imagine how some of my friend's dd travels to school everyday from the north. The commute takes such a long time and is rather tiring for the kid. And as you say, if school ends at 6 plus, she gets home at 7+, dinner, shower etc and its 9+ already. And you have to factor in some rest before starting on homework.

Distance is a very impt factor. Imagine you need to commute like that for 6 years (for IP school). And kids will get busier each year and spend more time in school. 😄

That’s why I’m very keen for DS to consider NUSH cos travelling time from home is really short.

But DS and DW seem to set their mind on RI.
Travelling time thru circle line from Clementi to Marymount is around 40 min.
Factor in walking time should be around 1 hour each way.

Oh well let’s see what’s the outcome of the WL on PSLE results day and the PSLE results first.

We calculated using new circle line should be around 35 to 40 minutes.

based on smrt website, Clementi stn to Buona Vista is 4 minutes, then Buona Vista to Marymount is 5 stn ? minutes ? can't be 35 minutes, right ?

it usually takes me approx 45 minutes from Changi airport to Commonwealth station
