If my child gets an award in the smops and goes for dsa, does this guarantee a 100% place for her?
If your child has a Gold or Platinum award, she will stand a higher chance at DSA. But these days, even a SMOPS Platinum doesn't guarantee you a place in the top schools. -

Depends on the colour of the award and which school you are aiming. If SMOPS platinum/gold, better chance at NYGH. If silver and bronze, not much advantage. If you are aiming for RGS, all girls must go through GAT then go through Math domain selection tests. No guarantee.
Not sure about NUSH and other schools. -
Snow Crystal:
In 2008 batch (current sec 3), heard SMOPS platinum were given tea session to join NUSH. They might or might still have to go thru the camp which could be free for them.chubbydd:

If got COs from 2 schools, when submit option form on 24-Oct, should only put 1 school or should put both 2 schools in preference sequence?

ngbrdad:
yap, these are good schs! I'll be happy if he can get to any of them.
On the west side a lot of choices actually.yukilei:
No lah, I don't feel like I've no space here. Just tat I realise there's lots of RI supporter here. I understand how the parents feel. Which parents don't want their kids in the top school?
I've shared this forum w my ds too. But not to pressurize him. More on telling him how difficult it is in order to get into top school. He has to work hard. Sometime, even if he works hard, he might not get wat he want but at least he tried.
I personally think distant is a very impt factor. My place is far fm RI, think will take abt 1hr 15min to reach. So I thought he should choose a sch nearer home if he has a choice.
NUSH, ACSI, RVH, HCI, NJC
so good to hear that it only take 30mins by circle line. Now my ds leaves home at 6.25am. Just hope he doesn't need to leave earlier than this when he goes to sec sch. If not, I'll have to shift house... To clementi. & hopefully by then, the property mkt is not so hot!

and there at least 3000 participants per year

For 2009 batch, SMOPS platinum was rejected by RGS and accepted by NUSH. :D[/quote]I always thought it works more that way, jtoh. Not the other way around (reject by NUSH but offer by RI/RGS).
But for 2011batch, Smops platinum also get reject from nush, lor. But interestingly RI offer .phankao:

Used to be that SMOPS Platinum would be assured of a place in RI/HCI/NUSH. Then it became an offer by NUSH but rejected by RI. Now not even an offer by NUSH but possibly RI. Guess SMOPS is no longer the golden ticket and you have to get SMOJ.
