DSA 2011

Hi Funx3, thanks. I guess DD was lucky n the little things we did to prepare for DSA helped. I helped her to spot questions for the interview n I believe one of them was crucial in helping her secure a spot. Why does this sound like cheating? Would gladly help if anyone is interested in the details.

Oh, most likely NUSHS bcos he has keen interest in Maths & Science. But DS is now in dilemma as most of his group of best friends who wanted to stay together didn't get in, so all will try HCI using PSLE results as NUSHS must get in via DSA....only about 15 places reserved for PSLE & based on last year COP 264, hard to get in. So sad....
Oh that's tough. But your son will make new friends.
Your ds is v talented in math. Which school is he planning to choose - NUSH or HCI?jtoh:

Just to share, my DS also attained SMOPS Platinum and we were told by other parents that once you have Platinum, will sure get into HCI but too bad, my DS was put on WL, although among the top 50. Luckily, DS got CO from NUSHS....Phew ! So SMPOS Platinum does not guarantee entry via DSA into top schools although it definitely helps.

My girl ballet teacher ask her to take Grade 2 foundation instead of Grade 2. Will it affect if she is using ballet for DSA in future?
If you are considering to use sports to apply for DSA, do make sure that you child is comfortable with the academic demand of the school you are applying to. It is not easy to balance sports at a competitive level with studies at a punishing pace. Of course, there are sports people who are equally good with both, though rare. The rare ones are really precious to the IP schools who value and recognise sports.
sports DSA to those popular IP schools are for those considered as national team / age group sportsmen/women, so no problem spotting them ..... they always top the competition at national level for their age groupxjysg:
Hi, wow, over a 1000+ pages of discussion!
Am hoping to get some advices from the experienced parents here.
For those who have used or tried using DSA via SPORTS, may I find out more? How do your kids manage to balance between the trainings and schoolwork? When do you know that your kid could have that potential? I understand that it is not easy getting in via sports for DSA and not the best may get chosen, but is there a sports that would seem to be easier than the rest?
Bear in mind, sports DSA is not easy at all. Each school will only take in a few for team sports and 1-2 for individual sports. Then there is significant risk that the same 1-2 individual will apply to a few schools and nab the CO in these schools, causing the rest to be rejected. So the CO offered by the few schools are really going to the same individuals. This is a very real risk!
-
Yes, I heard for many of the P6 in National team - this year and last few years, they buy a lot of insurance .... DSA to 4, 5 schools ....

And Many Get CO's from ALL of them!
So Now, Some Sch R Very Cautious, The Very First Q they Ask will be what other sch U DSA to for the Sports Domain.
When they see the applicants R likely to be accepted by other Top Sch, They could decide to save their CO for other applicants! -
