Hi, I am new here. Reading the above, does it mean schools reserve only a certain number of slots for DSA via sports or aesthetics and the rest for academics? What is a better route for DSA, academics, aesthetics or sports?
Hi Breadandmuffins,Breadandmuffins:
Hi
Can I check when using sports as DSA to sec school, must the kid win medals for school or just being in school team is good enough? What about sports school team plus in top two class of school? ARe these good enough for DSA?
Thank you.
Your kid probably have to be in the top 10 position in P6 level (whole Nation) and with academic score of average 75 for four subjects over P5 and P6 than you stand a chance to be admitted through DSA. Having said that, some schools will still take your kid if your kid is in the top 3 position with poorer academic results. The level of competition for boy and girl is also different. e.g. There were 40+ boys compete for only 3 DSA slot. Whereas, there were only 9 girls compete for 3 DSA slot. I shall not mention the school.
Anyone knows what are the schools beside RI, DHS and CH offers MEP?
Anyone has experience DSA via music can share the experience like how tough it is etc, esp to RI?
I know CH of course cannot compare to RI but anyone has any good reviews about the school?
I am considering DSA for my DS1 via music and DS2 via sports...
Thanks for any reply

O level music with v.good result for ALL students. Saw the enlarge list on two big white board o/s G.O last year or beginning of this year.
If your DS is from NAFA Grade 8 and award , try RI , otherwise Diploma in music might only get wait list. School friend now in chs. -

I read in RI website they only mentioned Grade 5 Theory or Grade 7 practical lei. Must be NAFA mah, how about the usual ABRSM grades?
Other than the music grades, what is the academic results they look at for mainstream, >80% for all subjs? My DS has grade 5 theory (no distinction though) and only going for Grade 6 practical next year (P5). Not sure if he will stand any chance at all in RI.
How is your school friend doing in CHS, is the school good?
Thanks. -

Those are just a guide. But many applied so standard is higher especially for RI, not just grade 8 dist but with awards for CO

Thanks.[/quote]The RI website mentioned Grade 5 Theory and Grade 7 Practical only, but most who applied thru' music has much better qualifications than that, and the number they accepted in for music is only a handful. You are competing against all the other applicants for that handful of vacancies, so having just Grade 5 Theory and Grade 7 Practical will put you in a disadvantageous position as that is the minimum requirement.
So far I know 2 who got in RI thru' music in different years. One is Grade 8 Practical Distinction and another is Diploma Practical Distinction and both have award and performance experience (local and overseas). -
We have already submitted the preference on Wednesday, getting the horse to say out loud his preference, and got him to do a eye ball check again before I submit it online.
The big fish in small/medium/(closed to big) pond or small fish in big pond thingy is still messing with my mind. This DS of mine is laidback, for him to end up being a small fish in big pond spur him to develop himself or will it be just making him layback further.
听天由命吧. I guess we can only help him this far, the rest will be really up to him. -

Got people so *cool* ah?less than 4 hours to go
anyone yet to exercise option for DSA ? -
ScaredyMum:
Number of places for independent schools to offer under DSA is entirely up to their own discretion. But for non-independent schools, they can only offer up to 10% of their intake under DSA, I think. I know eg. CHS, it's only around 30 places every year.
... does it mean schools reserve only a certain number of slots for DSA via sports or aesthetics and the rest for academics? What is a better route for DSA, academics, aesthetics or sports?
So far, I've observed that it's easier to DSA under sports for Top schools. But also must have national ranking.ScaredyMum:
RI under music would be under MEP. Child will have to have some awards at National or international competitions or would barely stand any chance at RI MEP DSA.Anyone knows what are the schools beside RI, DHS and CH offers MEP? Anyone has experience DSA via music can share the experience like how tough it is etc, esp to RI?
ScaredyMum:
CHS takes in quite a large number under sports, so if your child is good in sports, that's a fairly good route. Haven't heard of DSA under \"music\" for CHS. They don't list that as an available DSA route. For this year and last, they did have DSA under Chinese Orchestra CCA though. They only took in 3 this year under chinese orchestra.I know CH of course cannot compare to RI but anyone has any good reviews about the school? I am considering DSA for my DS1 via music and DS2 via sports...
