They ranked it much higher than ACS international and Hwa Chong International.

The principal of SJI Intl was from UWC. He's got a good reputation.

My friend is teaching in an international sch here. The students are all from v well-to-do families. So most of them (except a handful) have a lot of attitude problems. She was even criticised by the students for not wearing designer stuff and not carrying designer bags.

My friend whose kid studies in one of these schools said that compared to the rest of the cohort, her kid is considered an angel. The kid used to get into a lot of trouble in a mainstream school because of behavioral problems.

Some apply under DSA too for Sec 1 - one of my girl's schoolmates applied for SJI(I) that way in 2006 when they were in p6. Altho' not under scholarship. But there are other good students who get scholarships. So I guess these are the ones that keep the school achievements in the academic realm. Then again, there are students who do not as well. The small class sizes (around 20?) help, and the subjects too. I heard that for the less academically-inclined students, they just take up subjects that are easier to score. eg. like in the our local schools, doing Physical Science instead of Pure Chem & Pure Physics, or doing subjects like Religious Knowledge, Music, Food & Dietics(not sure spelling), Drama, etc. Maybe they have similar in INternational Schools.

There are local kids in UWC as well right ?

Very hard to get it but some do manage to get in.
And their results are not bad at all.

For eg if you take their Chinese at the lower level, it's easier than O levels and 7 (the highest grade) is very achievable.

I think If not rich better don't go to these schools, will learn wrong values or have wrong expectations. But I know friends who tell me that need to mix with rich and famous so that their kids will have better network when they grow up. But I think if you are not rich like them, won't be able to fit in, and will not be in the same circle next time anyway. :sad:

Agree. The kids will feel very inferior when their rich classmates brag about the cars their families have, what branded stuff they have,etc. Even in pri sch, the rich kids were comparing whose house's chandeliers are bigger, birthday parties are celebrated at which 5* hotel, etc.
The rich ones will not be interested to include the poorer ones, how to get into the same circle?

If my son has opted his choice for DSA (waiting list). Does this mean we would stil have to wait for PSLE then we know if were in?


I thot all these arrangement shld be before PSLE result release this week?

If after result, then they confirm that u r in , then I might as well go my merit?
