      hi moonee

your maid's description sounded so much like my good friend's maid 😉 i guess it is because they are country bumpkin, hence want to try everything. my friend's maid will eat up all the things in her son's goodies bags and when my friend not at home, will open the fridge to try different types of drinks.. my friend knows cause got CCTV. other than being greedy and always hungry, still ok, like a little kid 😉

Lualuachao, your description matches my ex-Myanmar maid. She came with so much clothes and on off day she buys more clothes. She also put on weight. After having off days, she starts scouting for jobs because after 2 years contract she wants to come as ‘S’ pass holder. That’s when the nightmare starts for me. She wants off whenever there’s an interview and I had to take leave. Afterthat she behaves like she’s the queen. Luckily my mom was able to be on leave and came over to protect my turf! My husband was the one who send her off. I went to work and didn’t want to see her face. Since then I don’t feel hiring anymore Myanmar maids.

If you read my past posts, you will know what happen to my maid. These days I have a bad impression with Myanmar maids. I think a Myanmar maid is ok if you have someone at home. They can’t work indePendently unless they are armed with 3 years experience.

i guess every maid had their own problem, so my plan is very simple, change every 2 years, no matter how good they are. I don’t mind spending time and effort to retrain a maid. seriously, looking at my maid who worked for 9 mths, really she changed a lot. became so ‘daring’ and not scared of anything.

in fact agent is very impt i felt. my agent is the very soft type, very nice to the maids. so they had not been well trained before came to my house. but my sis’s maid, came from a very strict agent. wow, i tell you, scary man, they can only bring in 5 sets of cloths, no skirts at all. extra sets will be threw away by the agent. and some bought biscuits and bring along cuz they scared cannot get enough food from employer. but when they reached to employer’s house, that agent will check the luggage and threw the biscuits to dustbin. my sis had baby, the agent can go up to her house after 3 mths, and bring the maid for hair cut and let the maid pay for it. reason being employers with baby don’t like maid to have long hairs. true that i felt it is a bit too much. but the end result is, the maids are well trained. and you treat them a bit better, they really appreciate. not like my maid, she takes everything for granted. since so far she had only experienced the nice people around her.

                  hi luanluancao

i guess it really boil down to employer, I don't think we will want to be treated this way at work, for eg; no internet connection during worktime now is like OMG 😉 Or your employer asks you to cut short hair or else you cannot work for them, etc.. For me I dun think the master / maid mentality will work in the long run. After a while, maid will still learn something especially if they got oppressed for long, later go \"xiao\" how?

So I still believe in treating them as how you will want to be treated if you are a maid.

now i know why burmese maids are not worth to be pay as much as phinoys..

they are slow & not \"street smart\" at all. I will always give my previous Phinoy extra allowance here and there cause she will has the initiative to do things without telling and know how to act sweet to get favors 😉 She was getting $370.00 only and to me I always felt that she should be getting more but since I have already increased her salary twice, I do not want to increase anymore til she renew her contract. My current Burmese maid is getting $420.000 and to me she is already getting more than she deserved cause performance wise, nothing impressive, hence I do not think I will ever give her any extra anymore..

GreenBelt, yes i agree with you. that is why i did not stop my maid from wearing her favorite miniskirt when going out. I did not even ‘scold’ her so far. even she threw away a whole big pot of chicken soup (I cooked the night before and used the chicken thighs for cooking another dish, next day when i went home after work, whole pot gone and she told me she ate some chicken and threw away the rest). i really hate ppl wasting food, but i only told her next time if not sure pls check with me. but now my prob is i can see she is too free everyday, whole afternoon she got nothing to do but she won’t take any initiative to do anything extra. like clean a drawer, etc. every night sleep at 9pm, and leave all the clothes in toilet and wash next day morning. i did not change her habit cuz i know, even i force her to finish washing all at night, she will be too free the next day.

also i don’t like the way she talked to my girl, no respect and not polite at all. I don’t mean she is ‘lower class’ than us, just that i hate it might have a bad influence on my girl. i used to be too nice to her i guess. got once i brought my girl to library. and i saw my neighbour’s bermese maid playing with the kids at our playground. i even called home and tell her she can come down for half an hour to chat with the other maid. since they already talk to each other before. end up she gave my house no to the other maid, and they can talk freely since no one at home and my home phone both incoming and outgoing are free. i was nice to her cuz i was afraid she gets too bored as no one talk to her. however, i expect in return, she can be honest and show more respect to us. but seems she just takes it for granted.

i used to bring her outside every weekend for family day, go botanic garden, sentosa, merlion park, even brought her to take the cruise on singapore river, took nice photos for her, printed and let her sent back home. but recently, i am really getting a little bit sick of seeing her. i am the type anything i can do, i won’t ask others to do de, and end up became she is not offering any help when i do any house chores. i felt i am having another kid at home rather than a helper.

Actually I don’t quite get it, how do you look after kids when you wear mini skirt??!!! You have to bend to help them for example in the toilet. You need to chase after them if they run away from you. It’s just not practical. She can always wear it on her off day. My ex-philip maid wears bikini for swimming on her off day. I think it’s ok as long as it’s done on her off day.

What I cannot tolerate is employers who asked their maid to walk dogs! If you like to keep pets then it’s yr responsibility to care for them. I don’t think walking dogs are part of maid’s job.
