      Hi depch,

Nice to know ur gal is @ Tanglin Branch.
What level is ur gal in for 2013?

My boy is so excited in going PSH that once, he chased after another boy carrying the PSH school bag…

Parents, is it true that PSH is stronger in spoken languages but places less emphasis than written?
This seems to be the impression I get after reading this thread. Appreciate any feedback.

        Hi Mulberry888

My kids are at Aroozoo. I think the single strongest point is their large grounds and outdoor playground/activity area. It’s hard to find another childcare with comparable hardward. I suspect that’s one big reason my kids like school.

I personally think quality of teachers is just average. Felt that the language standard of the english teachers is not great. But the kids have no complaints and seems reasonably settled in, hence we leave it as such. Truth is, teachers the kids get is really luck of draw, some are better than others. But with the high turnover in many cc these days, there’s no guarantee anyway.

Which class is your kid going to join next year?

ESA, my son has been with Pat’s Schoolhouse Lakeside for the last six mths and is settling in quite well. He enjoyed school and his progress is pretty good, in terms of his speech and being independent. His class teachers are patient, friendly and work hand-in-hand with parents, eg. detailed record of the daily progress and happening, and seek advice from parents/ align with them on discipline/child’s preference. The principal is very experienced and hands-on; I spotted her a few times on the grounds to work with the teachers. The school is open/transparent, as they allow parents to enter the classroom during pick up if we want to (unlike the previous CC, parents have to stay at main entrance and the whole area is masked). The environment is a bit old but it is spacious, clean and comes with an outdoor playground. The child:teacher ratio is small which is suitable for my child who likes attention. In fact, I was a little concern about the fees initially but looking at my child doing well, I am at ease when I am at work. I just hope they will not increase the fees.

I'm afraid you will be disappointed. They have announced a 5% increase in Jan 2014 (giving us more than 1 year's notice!).

I'm pulling my girl out of Pat's School in Jan.

Oh dear. This is bad. I still have not received the official letter from the school. I wonder if it is because of the take over by UK. Some of the other CC brands under them have monthly fees of over $1600++ a month.

Which branch is your child in?

This is old dated news but somehow very disappointing..

Patricia Koh has not retired as she claimed to be doing so, in the communication to the parents. instead she joined G8 group as CEO.

wow, even childcare groups have CEO now. shld be a real lucrative biz.

hanging on in pat's coz of the dedicated and commited principal, Miss Wee. 🙂
ooh long time din read tis thread.... apalled to read this!
well well.... think there must be some internal issues that leads to Pat Koh giving up her own CC. 😞

Quoted from letter (to Aroozoo parents):

2013 fees (before GST and subsity)
                      Full day (7am-5.30pm): $1450
                      Full day (7am-7pm): $1660
                      Half day Morning: $1080

It is anticipated there will be a more moderate increase from Jan 2014 (around 5%) to keep pace with projected cost increases.

I think different branches have different pricing. You may want to check with the branch that your child is at.

I had both kids at PSH Claymore and yes the main attraction was the big grounds for play. The standard of teaching was average but during my children’s time 5 years ago and earlier they had Beijing-born Mandarin teachers who spoke only in Mandarin so children had no choice but to speak and so spoken Mandarin is good. I do not know if PSH has maintained that strict Mandarin standard now.

Also during my children’s time Pat Koh was a very hands-on person so all PSH principals on their toes. Now with her taking a back seat I do not know if same standards are maintained. Having sold out her interest naturally the drive and focus is different from Pat Koh now.

I think important to compare PSH with other cc to see if the difference is there as it was in the past when Pat Koh was in charge.
