Percentage I don't know, but from what I observe, each class will have a main teacher and a Chinese teacher that follows them the whole day with the bilingual immersion programme.
The main teacher is usually a Singaporean and the Chinese teacher is always a native speaker, i.e. from China. The teachers at Arena are really superb. Especially love ds2's teachers and we are like family. They sms me updates all the time or write in the comm book if it is lengthy. The Chinese teachers speak very well (the standard accent) and they have helped my previously totally non-Mandarin speaking boy tremendously.
In his k1 year, apart from the normal Pats curriculum, the Chinese teacher took initiative to teach them 1 poem a week. Can be Tang poem or some other Chinese traditional poem. Through this, my son learnt a lot more about Chinese culture, and the different poets/ poems and their meanings. The kids memorised many poems too. Best of all, some of them can be applied very well to daily life and I am glad to be able to use them to teach all my 3 kids. Eg. the 闵农 poem, which we now use to teach them not to have left over rice in their bowls, don't waste....
In his k2 year now, they have another Chinese teacher, who is teaching them a Chinese idiom/ proverb each week. Some of them I have never learnt before despite taking Higher Chinese, ... So glad I can have the chance to learn more together with him. And when I ask him to teach me when he comes back from school, he reinforces his knowledge too. The teacher tells them the story behind the proverb, its origin and meaning, so I find that very useful in helping myself to remember the 成语.
As for excursions/ field trips, they have one in about 1-2months. They usually schedule one for each theme, and sometimes when the Chinese teacher also organises one, then they might have more.
They bring their cycles out to ride when the weather is good and the teacher will bring them on walks sometimes. But this aspect I still find lacking cos an outdoor playground where they can mess about with sand play, water play, climb up and down is still much better. Really hope the new venue has a good outdoor area! -
