Secondary 2 Streaming

Some jobs need you to study a specific subject in secondary school ( eg. To be a doctor you should study bio in sec 3,4 so that it will be easier for you to cope in tertiary education)

I wonder what jobs your dc likes . Dd has nothing on her mind . She said anything :faint:
At first she thought air stewardess . Then after the mh370 incident she doesn't want to be one anymore . I am thinking if she does not want to do any job more bio inclined maybe double science for sec 2 streaming would be better . Less stress.

in pri and sec nowadays... the students are asked to use the career something software... to assess what their interest and their strength is and what type of jobs suits them... from there they choose the streaming selection... :please:

To take medicine, chemistry is compulsory. biology is not compulsory though it is good to take.

I think that's perfectly normal! I didn't know what I wanted to do till past O levels, and only in the haziest details, and I changed my mind later anyway. My daughter in sec 3 still has no clue what she wants to do. For sec 2 subject selection, I think you should just paint broad brush strokes - more science or more humanities. If sciences, Chemistry is now the main one for most courses in university, including medicine. In any case, she will have to do at least one science and one humanities, which leaves less to choose.

yes. this is the one. DS1 took in pri and in sec again. he does have some ideas what he wants to do. I always use that to motivate him to his O levels next year.

While there are some jobs that require specific technical knowledge, I believe that in general, what is more important is for our DC to acquire the necessary skill sets to prepare them for working life and the stream that they were in is not important.


I do not recall being asked about my grades or subject combinations at job interviews and I do not ask about the same at interviews either.

I have three children. For now, my eldest daughter's plans are to be in biomedical sciences, her younger sister is interested in accounting, while my son wants to study public policy/government. All unintentionally different from each other, and their parents (DH heads risk management in a bank, while I am an educationist specializing in English).


It does look like my kids want to prepare for careers based on academic subjects where they were fortunate to have inspiring teachers and family friends.

I would like to get feedback from those parents whose child has taken Higher Music as one of the subjects in Sec 3? Is it very time consuming? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated as my child’s teacher told her to take this as one of the subjects in Sec 3? TIA.
