@jtoh, very sad and disappointed. Schools are not encouraged students to take 4H2 at jc level. I knew the SG edcaution system quite well as one of my kid took 4H2 and 1 H3 and GP and PW. SG JC there are no flexiable for the students. And just easy job for the JCs as there is no change between Jc1 to jc2.
I feel that schools should think about the students need. There are students which can not take the load for 4H2, they dropped 1H2 to 1H1. A lots of students failed their subjects in jc1. As such, there is no chance to take H3. If my kid can not take the 4H2 at jc1 in SG, I will send her to oversea study. I think more parents will send their kids to oversea study.
What is the students' need which require to take 4H2, other than scholarships? :? Self-actualization? Face? Ego?
Last time my girl say she is the only :siao: one taking 4H2 and 1 H3 amongst her other friends who come from other JCs.
3H2s is really a lot of work already. Even if one is taking another subject at H1 level, it's not like he/she will miss out a lot of content. Can self-read if really interested but most probably the child can't be bothered. And probably the child might not even continue with this H1 subject at uni level.

Go overseas just to study 4H2?

The Singapore-Cambridge A levels is to my knowledge, the toughest and most content heavy A levels - the A level syllabus for most British A level boards don’t cover as much/deep. Hence, the H2 load is heavy. I actually feel weaker A level students have it tougher now than in our time as they have to do four content A level subjects, albeit one at a H1 level. During my time, you can simply drop one A level subject and read three A level subjects - absolutely no bearing on UAS score for local university entry.

Applicants are posted to a course based on merit according to their net aggregate scores (taking into account the various bonus points for which applicants are eligible for). Applicants with better net aggregate scores will be considered for admission first, subject to the availability of vacancies in the selected course. If there are no vacancies, the applicants will be considered for their next choice course.

In situations where there are two or more applicants with the same net aggregate score vying for the last place in a course, they will be posted based on their citizenship status in the order of Singapore Citizens, Singapore Permanent Residents and then International Students. If there is still a tie, for example between two Singapore Citizens with the same net aggregate score, the one with the better gross aggregate score will be posted to the course first. If there is still a tie between the two citizens with the same gross aggregate scores, posting to the course will be determined by a computerised ballot where each candidate is given an equal opportunity.
          Thanks floppy for the info.
So will e.g. 7-2=5 students be ranked higher than 9-4=5 students in the system? i.e. have priorities.

            Asking on behalf of friend,

Her DD got L1r5 10, bonus 2 pts.
What is the raw L1r5 needed to do 4H2 in acjc?

Also, is the JC1 promo passing rate high?

On the contrary, I think schools are looking out for the students well-being. If, as you say, a lot of students fail subjects in JC1 and can't handle 4H2s, why on earth would they want to take an H3? How can they even manage it when they fail their H2s at JC1. If you're failing at JC1, then you'd better take the remaining few months of JC2 to buck up your H1 and H2 subjects.

Why are you so keen on your dd taking an H3 subject? And why are you so sure that she won't be able to take 4H2s?

I agree with jtoh that schools are looking out for students - most teachers feel bad when their students struggle, so setting limits to how much students who are not very strong can take is preventing them for over-reaching themselves.

From what you say, are you asking that the JCs allow more students to take H3, even if they fail their H2s at JC1? I think that would be quite bad for students in the end! Even if they do well at H3 (which is doubtful), how will they get into university with poor H2s? Unless you expect universities to drop their requirements as well. You have a child who took 4H2s and H3, so you should know how heavy that load is - not many students can take that.

Most parents who send their kids overseas at JC age are looking for easier options, not harder! The Singapore A levels are tougher than the equivalent education in all the rest of the English-speaking world.

All the \" Raw \" 7 pointers will go in first, before the \" Nett \" 7 pointers, because the Raw score of these Nett 7 pointers, are actually higher than the school's COP 7

                  Citizenship also come into play

Also, read the website for subject combination, because some JCs imposed the strict condition that if want to do H2 pure Science, u need to score minimum B3 for that O level subject, while other JCs never impose such condition

                  Wrong.
                  Net before gross.
I’ve just copy and paste the answer from MOE post before you.

                  Actually, phtthp is correct.

She mentioned raw score of 7. So, bet score will be either 5 or 3, depending on the number of bonus points the student has. So, this student will get into the school before another whose net score is 7. No conflict with what you copied and pasted earlier.

In my DD’s school, no one scored A1 for Higher Chinese for the recent GCE O Levels.

This is very surprising becos there are students who are very academically inclined and some have shown consistent strength in the subject over the 4 years in secondary school.

I wonder how other secondary schools perform in this subject. Or did MOE raised the standard or the school is just unlucky where their students exam papers were marked by an unusually strict examiner/marker?
