yes yes ... and for a moment i thought maybe all PW teachers are like that, till i learn to my horror the pw teachers at other jc are not like that. :razz:zeemimi:
I think every school has its \"fair share of 'not so good' teachers \".
:rotflmao: :rotflmao: I hv plenty of stories to tell, notably pw teachers.
:rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao: Remember how I thought your daughter and mine had the same PW teacher? -

zbear, what's your DS dream JC?
He hasn't decided yet but he hopes to get into one of the better JCs.
I guess the best way to find out is to attend Open Houses next year. -
Hi, I’m new to this forum. My dd is in JC 1 this year. She has done badly for H2 math and chemistry. I’m looking for reliable home tutors for these two subjects. Does anyone has any recommendations? Urgent, pls help.

There’s one in united square, group lesson, effective in terms of result. Mr Loi

Has your DD done any post-exam analysis on her mistakes? Is it because of carelessness or lack of understanding of the subject matter?
I am asking because my \"tutees\" had lost marks in their exams due to carelessness. I am now coaching them to be more careful. Their grasp of subject matter is now better as well. -

I believe I have thick skin to ask all sorts of questions. I do not care whether I am to be branded as a laughing stock as long as I get answers and get my points across.
At the recent PTM, I came across a teacher who is not spontaneous in giving feedback. It is like I press one button, then get one response.
In fact I am not ashamed to be branded as such too but it won't reflect well on my child especially when he is already an under-performer in school. Most teachers will only favour top students. Although some teachers may give a list of suggestions on how a student can improve on results but at JC level, it's not easy to improve by 'consulting teachers frequently' (must queue & preferably consult in group), 'form a study group' (not easy to find smart & generous cliques), 'study diligently' (who dares slack in JC), 'time management' (demand from CCA etc), etc. So the more one interacts with teachers, the more they will remind you your child is still under performing. For me, can :siam: tio :siam:[/quote]
My ds went from S in his MYE to A in his promos. He did it by consulting his teacher and redoing all his tutorials. So I honestly believe tuition is not necessary in JC. I hvnt gone to any PTMs too as I think at his age, he needs to take responsibility for his learning. His initial failure was probably a good thing for him.
He has cleared his promos in all his 4H2s pretty well on his own and with ALOT of help from his teachers. So I was rather shocked when he told me he wants to sign up for R papers in ALL his subjects. His reason being that he wants to force himself to study and not slack like he did before his MYE. I am just amazed how failure can change his attitude to his studies. -

What is R papers ? -

R means 're' or 'retake exam' paper?

If I am not mistaken, your ds is from VCA (victoria cedar alliance) IP and now in vjc? He is very academically inclined so tuition is not necessary for him in JC. But sad to say, I feel that for the majority of pupils in lower tier JCs, tuition is an absolute necessity.
Having the right attitude in studies is very important but if a pupil is not a fast learner, it doesn't help a lot even if he has the right attitude. The teachers in JCs can only spend that limited amount of consultation time with him and the pupil must be able grasp the concepts fast enough to be effective. I feel that your ds case is more of an exception rather than a norm.
So I believe not all JC pupils can do away with tuition by just being studious and diligently lining up for consultations with teachers. And if your dc is slow, the teachers need to be very committed and patient to persist the consultation routine with him. They are human afterall.
From a reliable source, there is a teacher from srjc who rejects all consultation sessions with her pupils as she believes she has taught very clearly during curriculum time. No complaints from her pupils as many think she teaches well and they have scored well in exams for the subject. Only minority will need to seek external help. So can't tell if the latter is slow or slack but not all can do without tuition. -

Yes you are right! The last I heard from my ds he is still trying to get on the R list for all subjects : ) Actually he is not the academic sort, he is still a very active sportsman who trains at least 4x a week. He was into all sorts of 'weird and funny' JC activities in his first 5 mths which explains his MYE results. I didn't hv much time to sit him down and talk to him as I was bz with my other kids.

I was quite surprised when he told me it was very ez to consult his teachers bcos not many of his classmates made appts to do so. He was one of the few who saw his teachers everyday. I think he was desperate ah. My ds' teachers in VJ are very open to consultations so long as you watsapp them in advance. So I am very thankful. His Maths teacher was v patient to go through the steps with him bit by bit everyday.
Actually I do think VJ teachers teach well, their notes are clear and detailed. All the practices are also sufficient. But well, i guess my ds still needs someone to 'nag' and ingrained the stuff in his head. -
