Anyone has kids in ICR Yishun or LC in Kathib? Pls provide some feedback is it good? My ds is 6 now.

      Appreciate all valuable feedback.

My 2 girls currently is at ICR at Chong Pang. So far so good and they love their teacher. My no.1 is with ICR for almost 2 yrs.
My No 1 even joined LC @Khatib for 2 terms, dont see any progress for her and she dont really like to join the class. Later on i found that the reason is because the teacher at LC is an ang moh and she cant understand his slang. My no 1 english is quite poor, so it very much depend on your kid. If your kid is english speaking kid, certain teacher with some slang will be ok for them.

I thot all ICR teachers are native speaking teachers, hence most will have a certain accent? That's why they chareg a higher fee.

        HI heavenarc,

My eldest is at PRP and 2nd one is at TCS. This TCS teacher is just newly joined ICR, so i cant comment much. But previously, my no 1 when she’s in TCS, she was under Teacher Margaret. She’s a nice lady. She’s quite proactive feedback to me on my girl progress in class when she’s just newly join her class. And she managed to understand my girl’s problem (My girl was very poor in english and too shy to speak at that time) and help my girl to be more open up and speak in English. This is the part i likes about this teacher.

              Hi Felicia
That's strange...Native speaking Teacher is a \"selling point\" for ICR, just like LC. I saw all Native teachers at the branch at CCK which my boy attended. If it is not conducted by native speaking teacher, I will go to other phonics school, cheaper. You may want to check it out at your centres, question them on this..I tink their website oso mentioned the classes are conducted by native speaking teachers.
The only 2 chinese lasdies I saw at CCK were the admin staff.

                Hi Dino Mum,
I din know about this. On the 1st trial, my girl was with that sporean teacher and she's comfortable with her tats why i din question much. She's now with a native teacher. But now i suddenly realised actually is 2 sporean teacher at my girls branch as my youngest teacher is a chinese, which i supposed is sporean as well. This teacher just joined this branch not long ago. Ok, i'll check with them on next class. Thanks for alerting me on this.

hi, my girl started ICR when she was 4, that time she knew phonics for single letters, but still not able to read at all. after attending ICR for 1 year, she was in ICR program ( the level with 6 books, and all stories are marked with sound codes). i had to admit that the previous 1 year class, in fact i did not see much improvement. she basically go for the class, play some phonic games, do some oral presentation, and some home work, that’s it. but these series of 6 books are super super amazing. each book only takes 1 month to complete, and she is able to read very well after book 3 on her own. and the spelling words given in the book are very well selected. i just need to read the words, and she can figure out how to spell it herself. at first she still need to refer to the sound code given, after book 2, she can read words on other books without the coding. pretty amazing.

for your case, i guess the ICR program might be too simple for your P1 girl. cuz my girl was promoted to ICR when she was in K1, and now she is completing the 6 books when she is in K2 term 1. she do have classmates who are in P1 right now. but i guess it might work better on your 5yo girl. personally i felt no need to go for any particular teacher, those native speaking teachers are all very good. i felt the system is very good. although i am thinking of stopping my girl now, i don’t want her to go for the next 2 levels cuz she is going to P1 next year, i am thinking to transfer her to British Council for english writing program. still highly recommend ICR if your aim is to get your kids master the reading skill.

                      Hi,

My gal used to attend the class. She is with Teacher Kim, I like this teacher better than the other female one. Very patient. but my gal refuses to attend the class these days, so I had stop her class already.

My son used to go there as well when they were located at the katong village.

First he was attached to an elderly teacher called Teacher Jonathan and he likes this teacher alot. After that, he was promoted to a higher level and was with a new teacher called Teacher Thomas. I moved him out to Teacher Kim as I thought Thomas would be too new and may not be able to handle the kids.

I withdrew him totally after trying for 1 term with both teachers as my son told me he wasnt enjoying the class with either one anymore. What they did in class accordingly to him is read, read and read. Well i guess thats why they called I can read. One more comment my son told me is that Teacher Kim kept using her phone (sms-ing) in class. I didnt want to clarify further as I once heard if we complaint, they will mark the student behind our back. Not sure if its true or not.

I am not sure abt other centres, but for this centre, i notice that the teachers tend to start the class ard 10mins later than scheduled and dismiss them ard 10mins earlier than schedule. So actual fact, they may only have like an hr of \"intensive\" reading program in class.
