Appeal Secondary One Posting

notsokiasu mum:
The PSLE result were released on 25 Nov. Some got their appeal / supplemental DSA appln result a few days later after submitting an appeal / supp intake form. These were successful cases as the schools do not wish the students to go report at the original DSA school after posting date (afraid that the students will choose to stay with the original DSA-successful school)keinic:
So far, has anyone heard from the schools they've appealed to. I'm referring to those who've previously participated in DSA and are now appealing to another school based on their results. I wonder if some schools would inform the outcome of the appeal ahead of the S1 posting if the student's results are way beyond the COP.
I don't think anyone has received any reply regarding appeals. My son is also waiting and the earliest might be around 27th Dec. Schools are supposed to process appeals after the moe posting results are out which is 22nd Dec. All students have to report to the schools they have been posted to regardless of pending appeals. Those who appeal under DSA may know earlier around 28th but those appeals after posting might only be informed nearer end of the month. -

Thanks verykiasu2010 for the info. Guess we'll not cling on to too much hope for the appeal

Fruitee:
Thanks for your sharing.i'm not sure if this may help, but nevertheless, i'll share my long experience on the appeal.
2 years ago (psle batch '08}, my score was a 253. it may sound good, but it's like being in the middle of nowhere. i was not part of the \"elitist schools\" nor part of those \"ace in o levels\". i was right smack in the middle. my parents wanted me to make a decision on my own for they didn't want me to regret and so i had to think through my choices very very carefully.
during then, NJC was in its first year. i called them up and they told me that the min. cut off they were expecting is 250. however, i understood that there were only 150 slots. it was a risk.
with my score of 253, neither could i make it to rvhs (254) nor scgs/mgs (256/255, if i'm not wrong). so i had to be really careful in my choices.
here were my 6 choices:
1. river valley hs
2. national jc
3. crescent girls school
4. bukit panjang govt high
5. nanhua high
6. commonwealth sec
i placed rv first over njc, because i didn't want to take the risk.
when the posting results were out- i got into cgs. it was expected, but when i found out the cop for rv remained the same (254), i was really upset because i missed the cut off by just a point. but thankfully, i placed it in priority of NJC, whose cop was a shocking 259. it was totally unrealistic if i were to try to appeal there.
since i had rv in first choice, i headed there to fill in the application forms. i needed to bring my report book along, and photocopy my p4 p5 p6 exam results, as well as a record of all the achievements i had in primary school.
i had to rely on myself- because my primary school teacher didn't really offer much help. she discouraged me from going to a mixed school and said that CGS would be a better school for me. she didn't help me in the appeal proceedings and stuff so i had to get things done by myself. i didn't have much achievements in primary school (i'm sure, like many others), but there was one thing about me that stood out- i came from choir. i was in the cca for 4 years and chorale was rv's niche. i went overseas shortly after appealing and i was worried because there was no news at all throughout the period.
when i came back around dec 30, i called up the school to find out that i was still in the waiting list. they transferred the call to another person (whom i believe is in charge of cca) and he asked me one question \"if you fail your choir audition, will you be willing to join a uniformed group?\" i said yes immediately. i had no qualms about anything- i just wanted to get into RV. he offered me the options available- sjab/ncc/npcc/girl guides, and i said, i'll prefer npcc or ncc.
less than an hour later, i was called up for a confirmed place in rv. immediately after i made that call. so i headed to rv to get the form, went to cgs to let the principal sign the acknowledgement, and headed back to rv to hand in the form. it may sound troublesome, but i was really really happy to get a confirmed place in the school.
oh and i'm a sec 2 in RV now, and i failed my choir audition, so i was placed for my UG choice- NCC. they say you never know how it's like until you try something. i really really enjoy my cca and it has built me as a person. i feel that it has developed myself strongly.
to those who are trying to appeal, never be afraid. there are sacrifices that have to be made (for a friend of mine, he had to get into dance, but he's enjoying himself a lot now. and yes, he also had to make that call to the school). but at the end of the day, your passion is what counts. and whether you have the heart to carry on
those who didn't get into their dream school- don't be upset either. like i said, you don't know how it is until you try something. i believe even if i were in cgs, i would be enjoying myself a lot too. but i still love the path i've chosen, and because i made the decision by myself, i will never regret it
Must ask my DS not to give up even if he cannot get into the school he wants. -
Fruitee:
thanks Fruitee you've definitely been a great help.:) btw, Fruitee did you appeal to rvhs immediately after you had known that you were posted to cgs? :goodpost: TIA!i'm not sure if this may help, but nevertheless, i'll share my long experience on the appeal.

As for the photocopy of P4-6 exam results is from the report book right? So just bring the report book along is enough right? -

there are a few things you have to bring- but one of the most important has got to be the report book.

maybe you could try calling the school up. and it's advisable to photocopy on your own because the queue to photocopy at the bookshop will be very long

Read that we can appeal to as
Many schools as we want but does that affect our chances ofbeing accepted to our dream school via appeal? Say my Ds wants to go to hci and we appeal to both hci and njc, will hci "know " that we have also appealed to other schools and therefore rejects my sonβs appeal?
