Hats off to schools which are upfront and state the deadline - definite and transparent. This is what some schools which do not want to commit deadline should learn from.

Of course I understand that there may be many forms to process, but who in Singapore has not work overtime to clear workloads or to meet deadline? Imagine the anxiety of a 12 year old reporting to a school on the first day without knowing whether this is the sch he/she will stay... pls spare our kids from these... appealing to a school is stressful enough but pls at least let the kids know the outcome (positive or negative) before they go to a new evironment.

I agree. But I suspect sometimes it has to do with kids and parents changing their minds at the last minute therefore creating a vacancy in the school. Therefore the school has to call the next person on the waitlist later than desired. But if you were the kid/parent receiving that call that your appeal was successful, wouldn't you be thrilled?

HCI is a good school. I'm sure your son and his friend will enjoy themselves there.

Yes, understand there are factors beyond sch's control. But I think the school should commit to a definite date (instead of after 31 Dec and into first week of Jan - quote from a school I called). All dusts should settle by the deadline and any changes, should be exceptions. This at least prepare the parents and kids for the new sch term - and any good news after that is really bonus.

If you don't hear back from your appeal school by 31 Dec just move on and make preparations for the school you're posted to.

Just to share, don’t be surprised if the school only calls you in JUNE 2011 on the appeal results.


I have had students who transfer in mid-year when there’s vacancy.

Why so late?
1. Some students follow their parents overseas and withdraw.
2. Some students decide to attend private/international schools.
3. Some students go back to their home country.

And this creates a large movement in many schools because…
Student A withdraw from School A.
Student B withdraw from School B to join School A.
Student C wiithdraw from School C to join School B.
And it goes on and on and on.

My child has 250+2 with 2A and 2A*. She's planning to appeal to NJC. Does she really need to put NJC as first choice, she missed last yr's COP by 7 points. Icalled NJC, ,they only have 190 places left Anyone understand how the system works?

I assume students are all placed in a straight line starting from the top student first choice school.
Am i right to say, all will be given first choice school first if they meet the COP. Then all the remaining student who missed by first choice will be lined in straight line again to check if their second choice school still have vacancy?

REALLY NEEDED ADVICE AS SHE HAS DONE S1 OPTION. Understand still have chance to alter. She has placed
1. RVH
2. NJC
3 St Nick
