Isn't 245 quite a way off from DHS' COP? You must update us about his appeal. It'll be interesting if he got in with this hidden talent.

Sure, will ask ds to check on his appeal

This morning I went to VS for orientation, his name has been removed from the class list, should be sucessfully transfered to DHS.
Thanks for the update. He must be talented in basketball then. πŸ™‚

The main problem is schools allow those already DSAed to other school to appeal. Should they stand firm or MOE give a strict instruction to those already DSAed that they will not be allowed to appeal after acceptance of DSA, parents will think twice before accepting the DSA offer and treat it more seriously.

I used to 101% support your view point - even now. If they don't allow such transfer, I would not have spent days agonising whether to transfer or not.

the problem is those top schools happily allow students to appeal to get into their schools. RI is happy to accept those who meet their requirements even post-DSA and post-PSLE result day. And HCI is happy to accept anyone who appeal and meet their cut off requirement, so do NJC, RGS, etc etc etc...and hence the ripple effect. One thing to note is that they are all independent schools (except NJC) and they can decide their admission without referring back to MOE. I asked SOME principals on the appeal matter : their replies :- as long as the students are happy, we are happy to facilitate. and it happens EVERY YEAR. They even have an unwritten understanding among them on the \"transfer protocol\" before they update MOE with the final namelist.... just wondering whether they do sms each other daily to update on the transfer requests ....LOL!!

Considering your boy is a yr-end kid, he is doing very very well academically. Any parent would be proud of such offspring.

          Cheers!

I agree. It seems kids born in Jan have advantage over Dec kids. They are almost close to being different year and different phase of development and maturity.

          Hi,
this may be a bit off-topic,but I don't agree Jan kids have advantage over Dec kids, before P1, u can really see the difference. But from P1 onwards, year-end kids catch up very naturally and fast and soon, you can't really tell the difference. As long as they are given the chance and proper guidance by parents, they will excel too. Just my opinion :D
My ds2 is a Dec boy. He just finished PSLE and did well compared to his peers. If we were to randomly pick 2 kids, one born earlier and one born later in the year, I agree it is not true that the older one would necessarily be more mature or do better in studies. However, if we were to look at the kid himself, his maturity certainly improves as the time passes. In short, I think it is \"harder\" but not \"impossible\" for younger kids to do just as well in PSLE.

In my gal's class, there are few boys who had gotten only ard 24+ but entered via DSA under CO and sports.
seems that boys have \"more privilege\" than girls under DSA or appealed cases.

Naturally and physically Jan kids are more mature than year-end kids. In May this year, I observed some of his classmates already changed voice. My son hasn't change voice till now. It is easier for parents to motivate and teach the more mature kids. I can feel the obvious difference. He is more self-discipilined now than the beginning of the year.
I admit there are exceptions. Like Rosyth's Sheldon (T-Score 279), he is one year younger than his classmates. But, I think statistically Jan kids should perform better than Dec kids. Just like girls normally perform better than boys in PSLE because girls enter into puberty earlier.
