vlim and kiasmom,

oh……..pardon me, i din know that P6 pupils work really hard for their Chinese to strive for good results. I thought it is because the pupils’ CL standard is “naturally high” that contributed to the high average mark.

CL is among the 4 subjects that my gal put in the least effort. (that may explain why I had the wrong impression). Whenever I wanted to revise CL with her, she would say,
“no need…….... laoshi had explained & went thru all the words very thoroughly.” The moment I took out the CL file, she would put it away. So all the while I thought the school CL teacher had well-prepared them for the exam that we, parents, need not to worry too much.
Yes, at P6 they will be reminded time and again to \"e4 bu3\" on their CL as CL is a core subject in PSLE.
As parents, even though our child will reassure that they have enough teachings by teacher in school, we still have to check on their work.
You should be able to tell if your DS standard of CL is good by reading her essay and going through her comprehension.
These two are the most drilling for the child.
Wheras for the OK one, it is a natural gift. He just writes and has no problem with grammar. His grammar is right most of the time though he can't explain why - he just use \"sound\".
When I was young, I did my grammar in a way of \"sound\" too. I found out that ds does his grammar the same way. He was adamant that his work was correct when the teacher marked it wrong. The explanation that he gave, \"it just doesn't sound right\".

I'll post the question in another thread. I think he is right but then again, the \"sound\" right might not be right after all. 😉

While I suppose your daughter is pretty good in chinese. For those who is not so good in it, they might have to work hard especially for the essay part by memorising the how qi how ju or even the whole passage... 😉

oh yes, she is pretty gd in her CL………fortunately,
otherwise, i think i’ll be a dead meat coaching her 4 subjects by myself. Or maybe, I am too exhausted to “care abt” her Chinese. Regarding abt memorising gd phrases, I saw her memorising them for CL spelling.

I did check on her CL on regular basis when she took back her spellings, worksheets and essays. To me, (not sure abt other parents’ standard), getting in the range of 32-37/40 for essays are pretty gd, so I decided to take a few steps backwards, leaving her to take care of CL all by herself.
since she said, “ no need me”, I’ll be most happy to comply with..…….hehe

Hi Augmum,

If her essay is 32/40, you can be well assured that your DD is coping well in her CL.
CL essay requires knowledge of many chinese characters, good layout and structure so I will say she is doing fine 🙂

Hi Augmom,
Don't worry. I think the possibility of having the bomb exploded is slim...heehee.

If she has been consistent in her CL, it will turn out well.

Good luck for your DD's PSLE results 😎
