My girl told me that she wants to be an artist or a fashion designer. I will ask her again when she is 15 years old. If she still wants to be a fashion designer, I will do my best to support her. Who knows she may become the next Vera Wang
Did you know - Vera Wang began life as a figure skater. Only when she quit skating around the time she was 20 then did she enter the fashion industry. So, you'll never know![/quote]She was not able to get a nice wedding gown for herself and decided to make her own. That was the start. -
My DS1 (4yo) has quite \"ordinary\" ambitions... first it was a teacher, then astronaut, now it is astronomer. My DS2 (2yo) probably has no idea what I am talking about if I ask him that question, but he loves cars... but not driving them, he likes to park his cars... so maybe for now he is secretly wishing he can be a valet parking attendant?!

A lot of time we asked our children what they want to be when they grow up. Me too, I started asking when my DD was 3 and she answer keep changing everytime we asked her.
But one day there was a backfire....
My P1 DD came back from school and asked me why I don't work as a doctor. She said her so and so classmates' parents are doctors and doctors can earn a lot of money. How would you answer this type of question? :? -
KSP:
KSP, I had a JC mate who answered that question posed to him by Med school dean (he was also called up for Law School and answered the same way...he got a place in law school and med school rejected him straightaway!

DD2 wants to have a career related to food (size shows) and
DD3 says she wants to be a mummy
I didn't have the heart to tell her that the egyptian ones not counted

Mine just added DOCTOR to his ambition list after watching the recent Doctor talkshow about a girl experiencing puberty at age 2 ... something like that. He exclaims that it was SO interesting (& honestly I don't recall explaing puberty term to him). His father is taking every opportunity to seriously brainwash him that there are better jobs out there than doctors

Why? :?
Okay. An update. One year on since I last wrote what dd and ds wants to work as.
Dd ambition is still the same. No change.
Ds knowing that there were a lot of air disaster recently, he started to think twice of being a pilot. Too dangerous. He change his mind to be a doctor instead. But main criteria will be. \"Mummy, if I become a doctor, will I be rich?\" -

Being a doctor is no good?? -
KSP:
Well, my answer would be, if the doctor is negligent, even if he's covered by insurance, there goes his career. But this maybe too cheem for a p1 to understand. Fortunately, or unfortunately, both my kids have absolutely no interest in being doctors...blood freaks them out.A lot of time we asked our children what they want to be when they grow up. coz it's a tough life...mathspark's comments about litigation aside, these doctors (ehm, those in public sector at least) have no lives...their weekends and nights are holed up in calls. Unless they are in private practice (which would take at least 10 years after graduation), their time is not their own...not v good for family liferadiantmum:
