I would look at where SGS bills / MAS bills are and compared with the banks FD and make a decision. If the banks FD is lower than the 6 months bills, then i will prefer to go for the bill auctions.

Saw long queues outside the banks in Toa Payoh. Heard from the bank staff that the customers are queueing to open fixed deposit account.


My hubby feels that the FD interest rates will increase even further to more than 3% by the end of the year. He mentioned that the USA federal bank is expected to hike the interest rate by 1% next week. So should I wait or strike while the iron is hot?

I have put some of my money into both Structured Deposit Account and FD. The difference between Structure Deposit and FD are :

1. The interest of Structured Deposit will be paid every 6 month vs Interest will be paid upon maturity of FD.

2. The Bank has the right to stop the Structured Deposit any time during these 6 years and pay you back your principle with the relevant interest but the bank usually will honour the period stated in the FD.

3. The penalty for early withdraw of Structure Deposit is greater than FD.

4. Structured Deposit is not covered under the Deposit Insurance Scheme but FD is covered.

You may gather more information from the bank staff before your final decision.
