I think the DAS charges are still cheaper than other private centre. Only prob is the waiting time for the assessment.

My nephew is currently attending the DAS course twice a wk. Per session (1hr) is abt 4 students. The teachers are all very attentive and good. We also attended some courses to learn more. From there we understand their prob, how they read a question (they jumble words when reading) … we tell him it is not that he is stupid, only that he hv to learn thru diff way…… They learn spelling, phonics, comprehension, math in another way. DAS conducting workshop for parents, caregiver can get $200 grant per year. Please checks the website for the details, the courses is very popular, some even need to book 3 mths advance.

How do you knwo if your kid is dyslexia? if she can't read but can write and spells well. Is she dyslexia or just a lack of foundation in literacy?

Do you need to have a combo of 3 read/ write/ spell in order to be diagnosie as dyslexia or any one will be?

My girl is 7 years old, she is slower than her peers she can't read well, but can read simple words, no problem in writing and ace in spelling. Is she dyslexia?

Do you have STRONG EVIDENT, COMPELLING REASONS for suspecting dyslexia? If not, don't panic or be paranoid, she's only 7. 🙂 She still has lots of time to catch up. And as you say, she writes and spells well, so you should be proud of that.

What do you mean by \"simple words\" (that she can read)? Also, what are her reading habits? Could it be that she simply lacks enough \"practice\" with new/longer words? Even ordinary adults stumble over everyday words they are unfamiliar with, and many more can't unlearn bad habits and wrong pronunciations; it's just a matter of exposure and practice.

I suggest that you borrow/obtain books with \"bigger\" and \"harder\" words and keep reading to her. The more she hears and reads, the better she'll get.

Last but not least, never compare her to other children - it won't do either of you any good. 🙂 Children mature at different speeds.

                      Hi Shn,

No, I don’t think you are overly worried. Now tht SA1 is out, if his result hovers around border line, it may be indication of deeper root cause.

                        Hi,

Can anyone advise/share? How to differentiate kid is a slow learner or has learning difficulties like dyslexia?

                        Thanks.
