Thanks everyone for ur kind feedbacks!

parent n child sessions - Maybe it's time for me to take initiative on what activity my child is to work on each week. Otherwise everytime go class its like playing on same toy weeks after weeks and it'll be cheaper for my child to play the items at home instead of in school! haha! No wonder lesson time seemed to be same weeks after weeks as I tot teacher will take charge of the week's learning activity

Buds, many thx for the starter links! I really need them! Still gong-gong abt montessori approach :oops: Went for the Right to Learnt workshop last week but too much info for me to take in ... need time to slowly 'digest' the stuff

I don't think she means truly authentic according to Montessori's exact specifications. Think she prob means get more 'reputable' stuff than those $200 for the whole Made-in-China set. I feel those are really dubious myself. Not for the lack of authenticity but for the quality (lead content whatnot)

Smurf, 1stly... i ain't pure... errr.. ain't pure Montessorian that is..
I definitely do not go or need authentic materials. Some foreign country
materials i have bought some time back didn't even have the exact specs
of the real ones i have used in my previous centres. I go for quality and
whenever possible... value for money ones (that does not compromise
on quality). In my opinion a centre can have branded authentic
materials but in the end it is the teachers they have under their wing,
their professionalism and of course whether the teachers can deliver
the Montessori ways anot. Likewise for parents, starters or old birds..
delivery is the most important. Having expensive materials but not
successful in getting the learning method across also no point, agree?

I am very flexible when it comes to teaching methodologies for i am
dual trained in Montessori & Early Childhood. I have the advantage
of being able to marry the two concepts together without compromising
on either objectives. How? Terror anot arh? :evil:

Hence, i am neither for or against an authentic Montessori set-up. To me,
as long as something that benefits the children is good... and children are
learning and growing. If one has money to splurge, go for the best or
what in your opinion IS the best. If not, then whichever is relatively good
with caring and passionate teachers... conveniently located and definitely
not too painful on the pocket... okay go! :celebrate:

Whatever it is my children should be happy to go to school and enjoy going
to school every single day... Learning is a life long journey... i'm still
learning the ropes myself and our children have a long way more to
go... pre-school is only a part of that way ahead.

They can guide as much as possible but they do not determine what a
child must do or needs to do for the week. Try to go for all 5 areas'
materials each week to get a nice balance.

For example,

> Practical Life : Spooning one to one this week and two bowls nx week and say mebbe introduce pouring of beans/water the following week...

> Sensorial : Geometry Cabinet : circle tray this week & square trays nx wk followed by fabric box matching activity...

> Cultural : Mammals this week using model animals and cards, amphibians nx week and reptiles the week after...

> Math : Number rods 1-10 this week, cards and counters next week then followed by number rods and cards the 3rd week...

> Language : cfim this week... ezpo next week... qrjv the following week etc..

Each week before starting on your child's favourite and usual activities
from the shelves, you get something or rather invite your child to follow
you to the material and tell him/her that you would love to show him/her
something new both of you can work with that week and then he/she can
resume the usual ones he/she is already very confident in doing on his own.

By week 4 you and your child would have done 20 different materials together.. :love:

Yes, short courses can be an overwhelming load of information but still
information not to say the least. At least today, you're more informed as
compared to yesterday... plus you are always welcome to pose your doubts
here in this thread, lonerunner.

hey, were u the mummy who asked NJ abt starting up a class after the workshop? My child's only 2yrs old, I think abit out of the age group rite, cos NJ mentioned that its better to get kids of close age group.

You are so right...but I want things to be perfect (if using Montessori method, use Montessori authentic materials, etc) even though I know that some things CANNOT be perfect...or rather, there is no such thing as perfect...
